We (my parents and I) stayed in Gannons Rest on the last day of our week tour of Tasmania. My other half is from Tassie so I am very familiar with the island but my parents have never been before so it was a real experience for them. My Dad actually said "Wish we could have stayed here longer, we saved the best 'til last!". Rhett and Dina (the owners) could not have been nicer or more helpful. The fresh bread delivered to the cottage along with the plethora of fresh produce and homemade goodies were a real treat!. A couple of glasses of the very tasty Port didn't go amiss too. I was very aware we would have two double rooms separated by a kitchen and bathroom as I had spoken with Dina prior to booking, and this worked perfectly for us as a party of 3. The additional single bed in one of the bedrooms means you could sleep a family of 5. The beds are on the smallish side but are in keeping with the whole look and feel of this period cottage. We loved it and the beautiful town of Deloraine. We even spotted some platypus down by the river which was great.

When we booked Gannons Rest at Blakes Manor, for a three night stay at the end of our Tasman holiday, it was stated that there were two beds, a double and a single. On arrival we found another double brass bed had been added in the lounge! So there was nowhere for the two of us to sit in comfort. The television was in our bedroom, where, in order to watch, one of us had to sit on the bed and the other on a small chair on the far side of the bed. We did find the beds comfortable although a little small for us so used the single and a double . We also agree with the previous person about cleanliness. Our unit was far from clean; dust under and behind furniture and the waste bin in the kitchen was dirty, probably because there was only one plastic bag provided, ditto one teatowel etc. We found the property dark and overcrowded and did not like the poor quality drinking glasses and old bits of crockery. Kettle, iron, toilet seat etc were all poor quality. We could not open the sash windows and there was nowhere adjacent to the cottage to sit outside. Blakes Manor did not live up to its advertising hype.

Room Tip: Cannot recommend Gannons Rest for any number of people. It would be very overcrowded for five.

Stayed in a Quamby Cottage for the view of Quamby Bluff from the bedroom.
The good....The rooms & entire property were beautifully furnished and decorated, the location is good....easy walk to shops and river, the breakfast supplies, loaf of fresh cooked bread, cheese platter, nouguts, cookies, cakes & port were all welcome & very nice. The hosts were very friendly and helpful

The not so good...the living area in Quamby Cottage is a little on the poky side
Some cleaning issues...Stove hotplates had not been cleaned which meant they smoked when turned on, so we had to open the front door so as not to set the smoke detector off and lack of flyscreen on the front door meant a pile of blowflies got in. We didnt use the grill on the stove, but noted it was pretty filthy. Also, microwave had not been cleaned. There may have been extenuating circumstances for the cleaning issues. We arrived right on 2pm assuming that was standard checkin time to find out room wasnt ready & the checkin is normally at 3pm for this property. I later did recall the owner telling me that checkin was 3pm when I had made the booking, but I had neglected to note it down & had forgotten. They did have the room ready for us 15 mins later, but maybe rushed the cleaning. The bed was a little too hard for my liking.

Many thanks for such a warm welcome, we loved all the treats, specially the warm home cooked bread delivered on our arrival. The room was so quaint. After flying into Launceston, we spent a week travelling around Tassie: Stanley, Cradle Mountain, Strahan, Hobart, Beauty Point and Blake Manor at Deloraine was one of our most memorable nights. Thank you, we will recommend to our friends and home to return one day.

Room Tip: We stayed in Convent Suite and loved it!

Compared to the local motel the $179 room was almost twice the price. The breakfast was cook youir own and consisted of 4 eggs and a tupperware caontainer of bacon in the fridge, with 2 small packets of Kellogs cereal.
The room did not have anywhere to hang clothes and no wardrobe. The bed was hard and the mattress was uncomfortable and there was onlt one reading lamp. There were no insect screens on the window, so we had no access to fresh air in the summer.
The heritage property looks "nice" but the reality is very different. Try the local motel instead.

Room Tip: Avoid the $179 room. we don't know what the others were like.

We rang upon short notice and were surprised that they not only had a room for us, but allowed us to stay those single night. It was amazing! The rooms were beautiful and opulent and every room kept your eyes entertained. Each piece of furniture and furnishings had been tastefully chosen and suited perfectly in the room. They even accommodated our 18 month old. Perfect hosts and breakfast hamper too. Highly recommend the place especially if you want something a bit finer.

I stayed one night in Blake Mews. The room was nicely decorated and lots of entertainment was provided such as DVDs, books and lots of brochures with information about Tasmania. The room was a good size, with a bedroom, sitting area, kitchenette and bathroom. Cheese, chocolate and port was provided and so were provisions for breakfast. They had ceiling heating installed which was not such a good idea as the wooden floor was freezing!! I gave it 4 stars due to the fact that I was freezing in there. I need to mention that the bed was heated so I had a good night's sleep. Other then that, we had a good stay with wonderful hosts :)
