Stayed 1 night in March 2010 whilst driving around Tasmania. Very old motel that is in need of redevelopment. Location is magic with ocean views and magic sunrises. However the rooms are 1960/70 era with cheap pine furniture and tired fittings. Television reception was poor reception service was only average. There are better places in Bichenoi for the traveller.

We arrived at the entrance and almost turned around and went elsewhere because of the appearance. Yes the place is from the 70's, yes it is in need of a makeover and yes, it is old and tired-looking but we decided to inspect an oceanview room and loved the outlook. Room was old but clean so we booked for 2 nights and enjoyed our stay. We'd stay there again and recommend others to do the same but only in an oceanview.

we are not fussy but this place is tired and very worn. the view from our room allowed us to see all and sundry battling to gain access to the "shop" the short white haired lady referred to in other reviews must be chasing plenty of people away with her brusque and rude manner. i listened to her handling an american tourists query and it is quite obvious she is a xenephobe who is killing the business. the breakfast is over priced and our local woolworths sells better bacon. our room was inundated with mosquitoes and the provided spray didnt seem to work. the bed was bigger than the mattrass and we both have skinned shins from the frames corner. our deep freeze in the fridge didnt work which cost us a tub of valhalla ice cream. the toilet paper seemed to be rationed and the coffee in the room was undrinkable. the owners must wake up and read these reviews as the rest of bicheno was very friendly; the glass bottomed boat tour of the "gulch" is particularly worth while and thwe young man running it a credit to himself and to tassie.

Had two nights at Silver Sands Hotel after Christmas 2009; last time there in 2007 had same kind of room which is a double facing the sea & lovely moored fishing boats off Safety Beach. Room cos twas $149 for double and was fine. Rooms have been painted; beds are new and are firm not saggy and the light fittings are updated. As well as tea/ coffee facilities they also offer a toaster and give plates, knifes, and a tea towel so you can easily do some self catering for lunch and breakfast by getting some supplies into the small bar fridge. The penguins are very noisy at night but hey you get to see them for free just outside your back door. Its a great place to hang out for a few days! If you dont want to self cater there are lots of great bakeries & cafes now in Bicheno town centre to get your eggs & bacon or similar or coffee/ chai lattes etc!

The place has certainly gone down hill. The mould in the bathroom was enough. No pool yet advertised on the net, rusty broken pipes and I would think over all appearance would count not here. Over priced. The grey haired short lady in the cafe what a rude, rude woman needs to take a course in customer service I think. Thinks that 6 tiny milk and 6 sugars were going tolast 2 days. Need to put screens on the doors so mosquitoes dont come in was eaten alive. And no more than 6 couples order breakfast at once the old girl will snap your head off and send you elsewhere. For goodness sake DOWN RATE this one and remove a few star ratings.

We can only assume the Owner has a great sense of humour but he should have called the Motel "Dogs Breakfast". Silver Sands Motor Inn Resort is AN EXAGGERATION in the extreme. The room we stayed in was very ordinary and did smell.
They did however negotiate on the tariff.

Oh my!! this hotel was probably built in the early 70's and has not been touched since. Stayed in a room with 2 bunk beds which looked hand made. The top bunk was very high with no ladder or safety rail. I had to help my teenage son to get up the top and prayed the whole night that he didn't fall out. There was vents below the window that couldn't be closed which resulted in a cold breeze blowing in the room. The bathroom was yuk!! where is the health department when you need it. If you must stay here bring your sandals and your own towel. I checked under the beds to make sure my children did not leave and belongings only to discover 2 towels and a sock that did not belong to us. Don't think the room has been cleaned properly in a very long time. Brrr! :(

Bicheno is a lovely town with beautiful sandy beaches.
