This is an amazing experience...up close and person with the gorgeous little penguins. I would definitely recommend this over the tourist destinations for viewing..
Great guides who love their job as well.

Visited Oct 14 on a clear night with mild temperature and a reasonable off-shore wind. Trip out to the Rookery was quick, 100m walk down to the beach edge where we got to watch multiple groups of penguins come up from the water's edge, across the beach expanse and into the bush. Even had several wander right next to us on their way. Definately worth the expense but make sure you rug up.

Bicheno Penguin Tours . Cost $30.00 per person incl pickup by mini bus. The tour takes 1 hour. You see appr. 50 penguins walking from the surf across the beach to the sand dunes, where the tour is watching. It's a wonderful sight, then you see nests and a full explanation regarding penguins.

There were loads of penguins the night we went on the tour. The guide was informative and showed us different spots to view the penguins. Our 7yo was in awe and stood still and very quiet as he was asked. They come so close to your feet, it really is an amazing sight to see! Whilst we saw penguins in Burnie at no cost, this tour offered a more intimate experience!

Good tour. Got exactly what was advertised in seeing penguins in the wild. Small group size meant you didn't have to jockey to see. Tour guide kinda ad libbed but knew his stuff when asked questions.
