Food and service at the restaurant is poor. I suggest just take a photo and go to the cafe in the petrol station

“Felt like a canteen. ”
Reviewed December 9, 2013 via mobile

We ordered the lobster and soup of the day. Soup was salty bacon and potato. Cost $110 for the lobster alone. She said will be one kilo but was more like half kilo young lobster. Came with basic salad and soggy chips and the two small dripping sauce was yuk. Felt average and over priced.

“it is what it is”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

Stopped in on the way to Robe, cafe seems to be newly refurbished but didn't have time for a meal, although it looked clean and tidy-staff possibly new, little slow on the POS computer etc. Only a couple of other people in the place but it was monday afternoon. Lobster is a big lobster, good for photos, not much use for anything else. Overall it is what i expected, stop for 5 minutes for a photo and an ice cream.

“Restaurant still closed as at 12 October 2013”
Reviewed October 12, 2013

The lobster is still there in all its rampant kitsch glory as yet another demonstration of the fascination that we Australians seem to have with various big things but the associated food outlet was still closed and looked pretty derelict to me.

“Menu sounds to die for and looking forward to going back!!”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

Visited The Big Lobster as part of our 3 week tour in September. The Lobster itself, who I believe is nicknamed Larry, is very impressive and is a great photo opportunity especially for the kids. We met the new owners while we were there, who showed us around the new restaurant and café area, I was so disappointed that they weren't open as their menu sounds to die for!!!! T

The owners are so firlendly and made us feel especially welcome. Pete (the owner) is a lovely bloke and has a great way with children. He was fab with my kids and showed them where the live lobster will be living and let them try out the new comfy sofas that they have in there, definitely welcome after a really long drive.

Their plans for the place are definitely what this needs and I wish them all the look for the future, We are planning a return trip to Oz soon and will definitely be going back to see Pete and Larry.
