After travelling from Port Fairy via Portland and Cape Nelson we arrived at Robe Lakeside Manor, our accommodation which had been booked 5 months previously and paid in full, only to find we were double booked and there was no other accommodation in town.
There were two rooms available at Kingston some 45 ks down the road, one at the Crown Inn Hotel and the other at Econo Lodge. After viewing the Crown Inn room we opted for Econo Lodge. The room at the Lodge was spaceous and had an ensuite but it was a bit tired, and the aircon noisy and not working properly thus the room's availability. However these disadvantages were overshadowed by the friendliness of the owners and staff and there was a pool. It seems the rooms are being revamped and had we booked earlier, we may well have scored a better room. Still, under the circumstances, we felt more comfortable here in Kingston than Robe where we were originally booked. We had an excellent meal at the Crown Inn, and the local people we met were extremely friendly. If passing through I'd stay at the Econo Lodge again and eat at the Crown Inn Hotel.More
