You wouldn't expect to find a Mexican restaurant on an island dominated by sea creatures, kangaroos and honey.
Nestled away (almost hidden) 50m from the main street, Yellow Ash and Chilli is a funky, fresh establishment - by Mexican colour inspired chairs, tables, wall murals and decor. Eating outside on a nice day or evening is great, especially under the featured tree (only missing is a sea view!)
Service was good; the meals were delicious and reasonably priced (considering the average restaurant cost across the island).
There was only one basic dessert option on our visit, which could be improved, considering the main course is very more-ish (or you at least want something to finish off the dinner).

That is indeed a big claim, given the popularity of Mexican cuisine at the moment but a yummier, fresher, taster tostada have I never had. It was just scrumptious. My friends and our guide had the prawn tostada. I opted for chicken. Tellingly, our guide had taken 3 other tours there before us that week and she still wasn't sick of it. The restaurant is beautifully presented with colour, succulents and a funky, funky mural on the side wall as you come in. Rosa and her daughter are friendly & chatty. It was a very enjoyable lunch experience - even for my hungover partner and our friend. I think the tostada's may well have curative properties. This is a must do on KI.

The service here from a young lady was fantastic.. She was lovely and ensured we enjoyed ourselves.. Coffee was the best we've had on the island!
Food was classic aus Mexican, simple but delicious. Quesadillas were the favourites
Would come back in the afternoon and sit on the deck with jugs of sangria and margarita!!!!

We were able to dine outdoors with our dog Riely who enjoyed all the attention from the other diners. A great spot to stop in for a bite to eat and relax.

Dropped in for lunch, it was quiet and the service was attentive and prompt. You just don't expect to find Mexican cuisine this good in an out of the way place like Kingscote. The menu is brief but has the essential elements of a good feed. My prawn burrito had a generous serve of prawns perfectly cooked with a spicy chilli sauce.
