Informative, suitably scientific and an easy stroll that included the aquarium. The guides also told us of regrettable incidents of dog and youth attacks on the Kingscote colony. Nevertheless, a recommend

This review is for both Penguin Centers, Penneshaw and Kingscote, which are run by different people. However, they are very similar in that the guides at both centers are passionate and informative about the fairy penguins. We saw fewer than twenty penguins at each location. Simply AMAZING! The night sky talk was a plus.
Very few people understand that these penguins are possibly separate species even though they nest on the same island. This is not unlike the turtles of the Galapagos. We were fortunate to see Lonesome George before it passed away. People need to see these amazing animals while they are around if there is going to be any effort to try to keep them around.
The Pelican Feeding at Kingscote is a treat and is part of the Kingscote Penguin Center. I hope the Pelican Feeding does not end this year due to the possibility of expensive homes going up where the penguins and the pelicans are. Shame to the people who would decimate these unique ecosystems for money.

Went out on a night with howling strong winds with rain so we were told by the guide before paying that penguins would most probably in hiding. Decided to go for the experience anyway. During the tour, it was obvious that the colony of penguins was painfully small despite the in-depth knowledge and passion of the guides. If you are a tourist in Kingscote with nothing to do at night, its worth a go. Keep your expectations muted though, especially at this time of the year.

Good nighttime fun. Due to the nature of the penguins you see them in their cave like homes only. We did not see any out and walking around. We did not see them coming off the beach. I do not think this was the fault of the guide who was very knowledgeable and quite a fun character, just the way the penguins act. It was still quite exciting and well worth it.

This was actually one of our few disappointments on Kangaroo Island, but it was neither the fault of the penguins nor the Penguin Centre. For a start, we visited in low season, which was just bad luck, but even so it is apparent how few penguins are left now. Is it the seals or seal lions eating them? It doesn't sound like the real reason for the penguins' decline, but whatever the reason, it is sad. The evening walking tour is still worth it if you have the time (you might glimpse a bird or two) but if you're pressed for time in Kingscote, you could skip it.
