“Luxury!”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Brice Hill is a first class lodge, and while a little expensive, is worth it if you are looking for a bit of luxury. We stayed in the Paulette's suite, and we were very impressed. It has a lovely lounge, a decent size kitchenette, a very comfortable bed and a decadent spa bath in a huge bathroom. The owner, Diane, is very friendly and helpful.

We came in on a cold and rainy evening, and soon enough, we had the fire raging, and had a delightful candle-lit spa bath.

From the accommodation block, there is a footpath to their next-door neighbour, Artisan's Table, which is a superb restaurant. We discovered (when we got the restaurant bill) that the restaurant gives a 10% discount for Brice Hill guests, which was a pleasant surprise.

We had ordered full breakfast provisions, and they were bountiful. For one breakfast, we had 4 eggs, a whole handful of bacon, pork sausages, tomatoes and wonderfully fresh brown mushrooms, plus bread, butter, spreads, orange juice, cereals and yoghurt. The suite is also equipped with an espresso machine, which makes delicious coffee.

Stayed (May 2012) in the Taylor suite and found it brilliant. Welcome was friendly and home was indicative of our accomodation, spotless, tasteful, comfortable. Brice Hill doesn't look commercial, doesn't feel commercial - feels like home. There are small signs of wear and tear but it appeared some guests did not have an appreciation or consideration of their accomodation. Our suite was presented with a fastidiness we appreciated. Breakfast provisions were plentiful and not in your normal sterile commercial presentation. Location is central and peaceful. And Clare - so much to see and do - a MUST is lunch at Skillogalee.

Only one thing wrong - shooda stayed longer.

We spent last weekend (20-22 April 2012) in Pauletts Suite at Brice Hill. The suite contains a wide range of facilities and the breakfast provisions are very good and generous. The location is fantastic. Bed, bedding, wardrobe, towels all fabulous. Very good bench height in the bathroom.

Given the cost of staying here, though, one would not expect to hear loud plumbing (running water, cistern??) noises coming from the rooms on both sides or to have to wash the dishes on the last day. New carpets and a freshen up wouldn't go astray. We were very keen to take advantage of the advertised solar-heated swimming pool, especially with the preceding days' weather having been so good. Alas, to use the pool one has to locate one of the owners to come up to the pool and remove the cover. Jumping in a pool is often a spontaneous event, not a planning event, best not to advertise it.

'Four self contained luxury suites catering for couples' is point two on the Brice Hill website but our neighbours included a two-year old.

We travelled here in April for our first visit to Clare. This accommodation was absolutely perfect, nestled up on the hill and fronting the riesling track it was perfectly position just out of Clare. The owners have thought of everything from massive cooked and continental breakfast provisions (we had half ours left it was so much) to our own BBQ, toiletries (inc makeup removal wipes!!), designer towels to umbrellas and the local paper each day. This accommodation is quite dear but nothing has been done by halves. We arrived to wine in the fridge, chocolates and port and a welcome nespresso machine and an abundance of pods. It's really hard to pick a fault and the grounds just make he stay even more enjoyable.

We stayed for one night in the Tim Knapenstein suite and what a fantastic room that is.It is a huge room with superb decor and furnishings and a large sunken spa bath in an amazing bathroom. The standard of cleanliness is impeccable. The owners have put great thought and care into this place with every touch imaginable including useful guides,a great selction of music and DVD,an extensive range of crockery and cutlery,a complimenary bottle of wine and excellent breakfast provisions. The place was faultless and quite amazing value for money. The gardens are sensational as is the great pool.A fantastic peaceful location with great valley views and the benefit of a quality restaurant next door.

Brice Hill, located in the Clare Valley is a rare gem. Perfectly located just the right distance from town it really let's you enjoy the surroundings in their beautifully manicured setting. We stayed in the Tom Knapstein room and it was just sensational. Really well thought through so you want for nothing. Great breakfast selecting included in your room with a big tray if eggs, bacon snags etc. (use the little bar by out the back, saves on dishes ;-) ) there are spas in all rooms, private courtyards, functional layouts, coffee machines, you name it. Just a 1 min walk up the hill and you will find the Artisans Table - great little restaurant, family owned and very friendly. Service at Brice Lodge is also a winner. You have that 'I'm in complete privacy' feeling, but have the comfort of knowing friendly assistance is only a moment away. Perfect venue for groups or a wedding/ celebration. High,y recommended!

It's not very often that you stay somewhere and don't want to leave but this is how we felt after a night in this lovely country lodge. My husband and I stayed for one night although we would have liked more but all the apartments were booked the weekend we were in Clare. We had not booked in advance and most accommodation was already booked. We were fortunate that the lady in the Tourist and Information Centre phoned to ask if we could stay for just the one night and thankfully we were able to experience staying in the Taylor Suite. With Lovely bed linen, towel warmers, great coffee machine, dishwasher., etc and Diane (the owner) is delightful and brought us continental breakfast provisions and even a red rose for the dining room table. It is a fantastic location with restaurant next door and close to Clare village. Also, the grounds are stunning with roses and vineyard views from the bedroom and dining room windows. We loved it so much we are going to stay for 3 nights on our way through Clare again next week on our way to Victoria. When in Clare stay here as this would have to be the best accommodation in South Australia. We have travelled through SA for a month and Brice Hill Country Lodge has been the best for us.
