I stayed at Amaroo for 2 weeks in March, whilst visiting Australia for the first time.
After a long flight,it was great that the competent and friendly Natasha was fully conversant with my requirements and very sensitive to my spaced out state (having travelled for about 40 hrs "real time!") and to receive such a warm welcome, which, I believe, characterises Amaroo.
I had asked for a sofa-bed in my room to accommodate the girls, if they wanted to stay overnight with me, instead of being in their camper-van. This was provided, without hassle, or charge, which is quite significant because my somewhat "untimely" visit coincided with cyclone Hadi. Therefore, the girls stayed in my little appt quite a lot.
During my stay we all wanted to maximize what North Queensland has to offer and,I would have to say, that despite my huge amount of research,Murray's input into our agenda was fantastic
It is so refreshing to discover an intelligent and informed person, on site, who is not "on the make!"
We did, indeed, do his recommended trip to the GBR but all the others including N of C Trib we did alone with his advice.
OK there are a couple of things that I understand, perspective wise, that previous reviewers say, although I found everything to do with cleaning 1st class. The thing is that this is N Q'land and not really for intrepid travellers.
The view from my (quite stylish) appt was superb and the facilities within it and outside eg. hot tub, lovely , cool ,little pool, BBQ area and laundry areas were fab.
What I found at Amaroo was caring people who responded to my needs and did everything they could to make my visit with them a good one. The insect thing is ridiculous - You will always find dead ones in an appropriately cleaned and cared- for property and this is a review a property and not facilities nearby, which, I actually also thought were great.
Good Luck Murray on all that you are doing - there are fair people in England

We spent 4 nights at the apartments 17-21st March 2014 and had 2 rooms with sea views. We liked the location and it was perfect for the places we intended to visit. The apartments were spacious and reasonably well equipped. What let them down was the bathrooms which were small and in bad need of an update. They appeared clean but on closer inspection hairs were found on the floor of room 203 and both had dirty plug sockets and light switches. The bed side lights and the light over the bed were grubby with dead insects.

It was a shame that these points let down what potentially could have been accommodation scoring 4/5 to 4.5/5. We did raise the issues with the reception staff however the response was to put our comments on line.

Locally we had a meal at the Blue Grill and the food was excellent, not cheap but good customer service. We would also recommend fish and chips from Flippin Fish at Clifton Village. You can either eat in or have a takeaway. We also had a takeaway from the Bangkok Rose which serves Thai food.

If we returned to Cairns we would stay in the same area but would try one of the other apartment blocks situated on the same road

Room Tip: Pay the extra to have the sea view

We came from Chile and bought a "holiday package" from Qantas for a bit over $1000 for 8 days at the Amaroo. Well, all in all we liked it. Bruce and his wife were very nice and at that time managing the hotel for the Amaroo owner on holiday.
It was Febr 2013... the hottest month of the year and we just had to hire a car. The sea was hot like the our tub at home; in the morning we saw small waves and in the afternoon too big waves.
The bad things were...
i) that we are old folk and the airport bus left us on the street level and it was a terrible struggle to get the suitcases up the steep path to the hotel receptions... No help was on hand!
ii) we had to pay for WiFi which never worked!! So, we had to search for public phones and Internet access elsewhere.
iii) the shopping mall (Coles) was quite far away, offering goods at "tourist rip-off prices".

We went there for 3 night. Next to the beach, bus stop and couple restaurants.
Room is clean, but smell something funny in the bathroom. No housekeeping, not sure if that's how it is in that area.
About 40 min bus to downtown, $10 each way, if u don't mind spend sometime on the bus, pretty good choice.
Hotel hour is really limited. I remember is 9am to 3pm
Overall, it's ok. But still don't understand why no housekeeping

We got this place thanks to a 48 hour flash sale on hotels.com sale and for that price it was worth every cent. It's very simple, i.e. you sleep in the same room as you cook and watch tv, but it has everything you would need. Also has amazing views of the beach with easy access.
We hired a car and used this place as our base for the week which was perfect considering the location.
We loved the pool BBQ as it was where other travellers left their condiments and bits and pieces when they left, so when we didn't have a little something when cooking, you could find it down there, and consequently, you pass the same forward when you leave.
The manager was lovely and answered all our questions and was happy to print out any external paperwork that we sent through.
Our only gripe was that our room didn't get made up (the room gets serviced once during your stay) unit the day before we left.
Would recommend if you want something simple in a good location.

Amaroo at Trinity is a lovely little place! The rooms are clean and modern with great privacy. No need to hire a car unless you wish to tour the cairns area! Pool area is gorgeous and peaceful :) Great location and views! Only problem is - our weekend wasn't long enough!!
