Visited on a Saturday night - made a booking earlier and glad we did. This local hang out was pumping, and so it should! Starting with a wine and schooner of beer for $9.90, and ending with ribs and seafood feast for $50, we had a great value meal that was more than delicious and more than enough for a healthy appetite! If we lived in the area, we would come here all the time!

Great place to sit and have a drink on the canal, meals are reasonabley priced - though could be better in terms of taste, less greasey etc.
Most of the staff aren't overly talkative, this is not always a bad thing, friendly but not invasive. Loved feeding the fish off the deck with chips - brought some extea fun to the afternoon.
The security officer was a little bit overbearing when circling the premises and eying some of the younger patrons, although they were keeping to themselves and not being rowdy in the least. . it seems a bit of a locals and 'older persons' retreat/ hangout. . Perhaps their intention is to keep it like that?
Not a bad place for a drink, maybe not so much a meal.

On arriving at the Pelican Waters Tavern, I was filled with hope that it would be a good dining experience as the place was packed with diners. We were greeted by a waitress who showed us to a table and provided menus; however, having not previously been we did not know that you had to order the meal at a counter. We ordered Barramundi and a chicken schnitzel. Both arrived within a reasonable time and the meal sizes were very generous. However, the chips were not that crisp and the schnitzel was overdone and dripping with gravy which would have been better served on the side. The fish was cooked well.

If we had stopped our meals there we would have left the Tavern thinking it was an OK place to have a basic pub meal. That's until I made the mistake of ordering coffee. I asked for a vienna coffee which was on the drinks menu. I had to explain to three staff what a vienna coffee was(one of whom did not seem happy that I had the audacity of ordering something on the menu) . When it arrived it looked like a long black with a 1/4 teaspoon of cream in it. I was astounded that I had to explain to staff how to make a coffee that was clearly written on their menu. It's not exactly an exotic coffee as it's available in virtually every coffee shop I've ever been to. Furthermore, the chocolate brownie we had was the worst I've tried.

I think I'll give this place a miss in future.

We almost didn't go based on the previous review because neither of us like char grilled steak. However, we were staying close by at the Crowne Plaza so it was convenient.
We went early in the evening on the first night and after being seated we went up to the service area and ordered the Wagyu steak with a little trepidation.
I have to say we were delighted with the meal. The steak was cooked to perfection (just a hint of that char grill but not overpowering) and the salad was absolutely fresh and tasty. The chips would be among the best I have ever had.
We enjoyed the meal so much that we went back and had the same thing the next night. Although the special of $10.00 off only applied on the previous night which was the Thursday.
On the third night we decided to try the Lobster meal and although it was very nice, we didn't feel it compared with the steak dinner so on our last night we went back for another steak.
The staff are friendly and obliging. The atmosphere is a little noisy but it is a tavern so that is to be expected.

This is essentially a pub bistro. You are shown to a table with a number. Then you order your food at the counter, give them your table number and pay for it. The food is later brought to your table. Wine and beer are ordered and paid for at the bar and you take it to the table yourself. There is a reasonable selection of bottled wines.

We ate there twice on our recent Caloundra/Golden Beach trip. The dining area is large, but tables are well spaced. Both times we were able to sit at a table overlooking the canals – very pleasant in the early evening.

The first time we both had steak (it was a special night with $10 off). The steaks were of first class quality, but unfortunately had been chargrilled (like on a barbecue) and left a burnt taste on our medium rare steaks. Not a style of cooking to our taste as it detracts from the taste of the steak in our view. We also made the mistake of having the pepper sauce. The steaks were smothered in it and the sauce was more like a gravy than a sauce. We would do without it in future. However the salad and thick, chunky fries were excellent.

We decided to try again the following week and this time chose the special of Barramundi with accompanying bug. What an excellent choice! We both thought the Barramundi the tastiest and moistest we have ever eaten in Australia (and we eat it often). And the accompanying mango salsa, salad and fries were also very good indeed. Now back home, we are still talking about this meal.

So needless to say, we will eat there again on our next visit. But a word of advice. Currently on Mondays and Tuesdays children eat free so we avoided those nights. We would also avoid weekends when there is live music. We found Wednesday and Thursday suited us fine, but others who like things busier might prefer other nights.

There seem to be regular specials so it’s a good idea to look online before you go. Some things (like the current steak special) are only available on a Thursday, for example.

We enjoyed our two meals there and found the staff friendly and helpful. Certainly the food is of excellent quality and well priced. We would recommend people try it – on an evening to suit their requirements for either relative peace and quiet or a livelier atmosphere with entertainment.
