I dined at this establishment a few years ago and thought it was top notch so was looking forward to eating there again. Sadly the standard has dropped considerably since our last visit. We had dinner there mid week recently. After the waiter (who appeared to be chatting to acquaintances at the bar) finally acknowledged our presence when we arrived, he seated us at a table with ocean views and plonked down a bottle of Fiji bottled water with a $5 price tag prominently displayed. No offer of a jug of tap water was ever made and we did not request it. This did not give a welcome feel to the restaurant as most resturants in Queensland generally give a free jug of water on arrival.
We ordered drinks which arrived promptly. Our meal arrived in a timely manner and the food generally was good. The steak was cooked just right and the fish was well presented. However we ordered a side of chips and they were old and smelt of stale oil and looked like they had been reheated from lunch time and were inedible. They cost $5.50 so we felt a little ripped off.
The desserts were nice with quite a good choice but at $10-$11 they were fairly overpriced for a slice of cheesecake with a scoop of ice cream on the side. When our bill arrived we found we had been charged an additional $25 for drinks we did not order or consume. Only four tables were occupied the entire time we were there, so how did they get it so wrong? I wonder what the service would be like on a busy night.
Overall a very ordinary dining experience, let down by poor service.
