“Defrosted crab on SEAFOOD PLATTER”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

As a post Xmas treat we decided a family dinner out was in order. We read that this was the best seafood in Caloundra. The menu read brilliantly with to die for sounding meals of prawn ravioli - but several meals just were not available. Including the ravioli.

We decided to go with the much advertised platter ($62 it said online but $71.50 on the menu when there - guessing they were trying to hide a holiday surcharge)
We dont like oysters so asked for something else- we got tons of prawns _ I was hoping for scallops.

The barramundi was great; scallops overcooked but ok; hot prawns fine but cold prawns tasteless and sadly the crab watery and bland - clearly frozen meat
Entirely disappointing.

For a seafood restaurant I think we would have been better off having something from the local chippa or a tin of sardines.

Such a shame.

“Celebrated 60 in style!!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

This restaurant was just the right way to celebrate a special occasion. Our table overlooked The Esplanade and Pumicestone Passage and at night the lights look wonderful especially as you look back towards Golden Beach. Service was brilliant - unobtrusive, slick, just right. A Maitai cocktail started the evening well - Coffin Bay oysters, eye fillet and cheese board to finish. My husband had the scallops, eye fillet, and apple & berry crumble with chantilly cream and ice cream. All exquisitely cooked and presented. The same level of service was accorded to each set of diners - just the right touch of professionalism mixed with personable chat. This is fine dining and the price is reflected accordingly but worth every dollar in my humble opinion!

“The best wedding, more than we could have ever hoped for”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

My husband and I have been visiting Tides regularly for the last few years and have always enjoyed our meals, view, service and ambiance. When it came to planning our wedding, the decision was simple, we were always going to have it at Tides. Michael, Anthony and all the team made it so easy and stress free to organise. On the day, the service, attention to detail and management of our function was exceptional. The food was heaven - if this restaurant isn't given a chef's hat in the next awards we will be asking why!!!

We were fortunate to be able to work with chef, Anthony Shone, for a few months on this sensational degustation menu and he delivered.

We started with Hervey Bay Scallops with a tom yum dressing. The dish was a beautiful balance of sweet and sour. A real delight on the palette, and cooked perfectly with the scallops both juicy and tender.

Next was a hot smoked salmon served with spiced prawn vermicelli salad and black sesame paste. Just delicious. The hot smoked salmon worked perfectly with the vermicelli salad, and the black sesame paste helped to bring out all the beautiful, natural seafood flavours.

Third on the menu was a tempura soft shell crab with cucumber and coriander salad drizzled with chilli and lime, hot and sour sauce. The crab was succulent, both soft and crunchy, teamed with the fresh flavours of the cucumber and coriander salad that was balanced to perfection by the chilli and lime, hot and sour sauce.

We then all enjoyed a delicious mojhito refresher, to cleanse our palettes. This can only be described with one word - yum!

Next, we indulged in the best pork belly I have ever eaten - delicately seasoned with star anise and ginger, with a sticky rice fritter. All of our guests are still raving about this dish. The pork was spectacular - succulent with a crispy, and incredibly flavoursome, crackling on top. Asian flavours and pork are made for each other, and this dish did not disappoint. In fact - and I didn't think this was possible - it exceeded my expectations!

We then finished with a rare Wagyu beef fillet served with a pickled vegetable salad, crispy shallots and shrimp. What a stellar dish. The Wagyu was superbly cooked, with each bite melting in your mouth. The chef had spent nearly two months making the amazing sauce - and you could tell. It was deep in colour, luscious and silky in texture and the depth of flavour was sensational. All culinary senses were satisfied with this dish - it looked great, smelt fantastic and tasted amazing. I savoured this one right to the end - our guests agreed that this dish had a real 'wow' factor to it.

Everyone was just blown away by this menu, service and the quality of the food. In fact, many are already planning a return trip to the Sunshine Coast, so that they can visit Tides again to enjoy the spectacular views and refined service offered by Michael and his team.

Chef Anthony Shone has such a delicate and deft touch with his food and we were truly blessed to have him in charge of our wedding reception.

We can't thank the team at Tides enough. Their skill and imagination has helped create the most special and memorable meal - and day - of our lives.

“The best fine dining in Caloundra”
Reviewed December 4, 2012 via mobile

We have eaten here on a number of occasions. Every time the food has been top quality, the service wonderful and the location excellent. Not cheap but the quality has always been commensurate with the price. Don't miss it if you enjoy fine dining.
