Cashelmara Beachfront Apartments
Reviewed July 26, 2012

The apartment was very good and well equipped and we were allowed to check in early after a long flight from the UK via Dubai. The location is ideal, we could literally walk barefoot across the road to a wonderful beach, which we did most days during our 11 night stay when we walked up to the Surf Club at the south end of the beach for a nice coffee before returning for a lovely stroll back. Burleigh Heads is close to Surfers Paradise but quiet enough for our needs as we dont like too much hustle and bustle on holiday. The bedrooms were very nice and comfortable and the views from the apartment are fantastic (the balcony is an issue if you suffer from a fear of heights though). Our only problem was that the apartment had no heating and I appreciate this area does not have much cold weather, but although the days were ideal weather wise for the first week with lovely clear blue skies, it was winter and the nights were quite cool at first and the kids bedrooms were quite cold. Cashelmara Apartments have a great pool with a heated jackussi, lovely clean and presentable gardens and a lovely bbq area which is next to a mini tennis court for kids.

Room Tip: Ours was the Penthouse and had no noise from neighbours above

Firstly, and fyi important iformation we know this area very well as my parents retired to this area 25 years ago; we have been coming out every year for the last 10 years; travel business, so like high standards; well travelled; so we are v familiar with qld, gold and sunshine coasts and the barrier reef area. Also, we had previously visited some friends of my parents in one of these apartments in 2010 and were simply 'bowled over' by the view and apartment. for us, and we live in central London, just 4 mins away from Big Ben etc. it was like being home from home, except with a gorgeous ocean view, lovely sunshine and heat! infact what has prompted me to write this at 0700 on a cold, wet bank holiday Sunday morning? Waking up, thinking about going out for a run by the Thames before the throngs of tourists start flocking out and as it's so dark and grey outside ( yes, it's May 2012!) what do I do before I before I start reading on my kindle iPad? I log on to cashelmara apartments and look out to sea (see!). So, what prompted me to write is reading some of these reviews! Dear reader, please don't be put off by these reviews...may I suggest that having read them you choose your apartment carefully as clearly from what I have read some people didn't have a g8 apartment. For us, as I said, it was like home, but with sunshine and a view to die for...very comfy apartment, modern but not too sterile; nice decor and artwork; fab, spacious, comfy and long balcony for breakfast and sunbathing/ socialising. Just walk across the road and you are right not the beachfront promenade where one can go for one's morning walk/ swim/run/ coffee; ah bliss! Noleen on reception is lovely and friendly and not intrusive. Life is so very easy going and free. so, reader, please don't read at first glance everything you see as that's not our experience ( and we are v fussy and knowledgeable about qld); go; enjoy these peaceful, sunny, warm apartments and you will want to book again and that's just what I 'm about to do right now!

We stayed here Feb 11 to March 11, 2012. This was my second stay (first was in 2004). We had a 2 bedroom unit on the 14 th floor. The view was amazing, the kitchen had everything we needed (and it all matched). Yes, the kitchen cupboards were a little dated, but they were in excellent shape. The bathrooms had been redone. The master bed was very comfortable.

As someone else here has said, there wasn't air conditioning but the sea breezes kept the apartment cool. We had a floor fan that we used at night and we were never uncomfortable.

The pool was FABULOUS - we usually had it all to ourselves for hours at a time. It was very clean and the manager appeared to take great pride it it. Every morning he was out there, tidying up, making sure the tables, chairs and loungers were in just the right position.

I can't say enough about the location! Our view for the master bedroom and balcony was breathtaking. It was only a couple of blocks to the surf club, Coles grocery store, liquor store and ATM. The bus stop was 1/2 a block and we explored the Gold Coast from Coolangatta to Surfers Paradise. There is a Macdonald's around the block - right beside a 7-11' which was perfect for getting morning coffee and the Gold Coast Bulletin for balcony reading. Also, having the Gold Coast Airport so close, we managed to get cheap flights to Cairns for 2 nights and to Sydney for a day - twice!

All in all, Cashelmara was great value for the money! Staying there allowed us to spend 4 weeks in Australia, rather than 2 weeks in a higher end resort. And I would go stay there again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Try to get a room above the 8th floor so the ocean views aren't blocked by trees. Also, the roo...

We have stayed here a couple of times, and given the price and the location, the only thing I can complain about its the fact that there is no air conditioning in the units.
Yes, the decor is a little dated, but do you come here to be in the apartment or the beach/town? That is the question you need to ask.
We came with my family twice and it was a great space for us.
The views are amazing, the pool is fabulous as it is shaded and guarded from the street.
I have lovely memories from Cashelmara, I only wish it was air conditioned, then I would return.

The apartment we stayed in was unbelieveable - dirty carpets were stained all over, furniture was broken, sleeps 5 - but only chairs for four at dinning table and 2 of those were broken. Chipped china (this is an absolute NO! NO!) cutlery only enough for 2 people, the fypans were absolutely disgusting they had been scrapped and scraped with telfon peeling off. Absolute bear minimimum of everything - you could not avail yourself of the BBQ facilities as there was just not enough plates/BBQ tools (none provided). The apartment was not clean - blankets with holes in them and frayed and bedcovers that looked like they had not seen the washing machine for years.
TV was about 15 years old - no radio/stereo. Uncomfortable furniture that was faded and broken. You pay a weekly amount for a 2 bedroom apartment expecting to sleep 4 people then the management sting you for an extra $150.00 per person charge for first week and $20.00 a night thereafter.
Only good thing about this place is the swimming pool - lovely and sheltered from wind.

We have stayed at this apartment complex several times over the last 10 years. The location is excellent, accross the road from Burleigh Heads beach. There is a narrow park between the road and the beach that has a lovely walking/cycling track. It really is a beautiful area.
Cashelmara has a small, very clean pool and a jacuzzi. There is a half tennis court for a hit and a giggle. The grounds are well maintained.
We stayed in a two bedroom unit. Unfortunately, there was a terrible smell in the foyer of the floor on which our unit was situated - caused by a lack of ventilation and possibly the smell coming up from the rubbish shoot. Rubbish is cleared daily and the complex is very clean and well maintained but this smell was really horrible - at least it didn't get in to the unit.
The two bedroom units are small but as long as you are on an upper level floor probably from 4upwards, you'll get an amazing view of the beach and ocean. Each unit is individually owned - there is an onsite manager, so the fitout varies. Our unit was very 80's - pinkish beige colours, carpet needed replacing. The kitchen was very poorly stocked and it was impossible for two people to have a shower at once as the hot water would go off!
My advice speak to the managers personally and demand a unit with an upgraded fitout.
The location is wonderful but the units interior really let it down.
