Ulladulla Lodge

Ulladulla is a winner spot, and Ulladulla Lodge is the perfect place to base yourself. The owners are friendly and full of local info, including what to do, and have great links with the local providers. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, while the prices are affordable enough for an extended stay. I would definitely recommend staying at Ulladulla lodge.

Room Tip: choose the room that suits your budget. they all seemed like good value.

The Ulladulla Lodge is located close to the town centre of Ulladulla and is an easy walk to some amazing south coast beaches. This part of Australia was definitely one of my favourites with it's uncrowded beaches and abundance of wildlife. The accomodation at Ulladulla Lodge is really clean and very comfortable and the facilities are well kept and user friendly. You'll love the new hosts (Nick & Lauren) who are super friendly and helpful, and can even teach you to surf if you want some extra adventure in your holiday. Thanks for a great visit guys, and I look forward to returning soon....

Room Tip: The queen size bed was quite and comfortable.

If you have been travelling away from home for a long time and need to rest and relax in a clean and comfortable environment this is my reccommendation to you. I had been travelling the east coast for a couple of months and this had to be one of my favourite stays. Ulladulla is a small coastal town which truly is a hidden secret with alot to offer. The owners of the lodge Nick and Loz are a barrel of laughs and are quality entertainment. They even took me surfing which was super fun even if i didnt manage to stand up. I highly reccommend the Ulladulla Lodge experience

Room Tip: i always stay in the queen rooms, you pay a little more but always worth it

Had just changed management just before our stay, is now called Ulladulla lodge. It was easily drivable from Melbourne in a day and a good base to enjoy the south coast. We love the variety of water based activities that the area has to offer with a favourable climate. Would recommend!

If you want to feel like you're back at school and that you are being spied on, this is the place to go. Clean hostel, quiet, but would not stay there again, even for a stop over: just not enough privacy.

Helen, the owner, is very controlling and quite intrusive. We felt like we were being observed at all times and that if we did not the right thing exactly the way that she wants things to be done, we would get in trouble...definitely not the way you want to feel when you are trying to get some time off work.

There are warning signs everywhere (see pics), telling you how to wash your dishes, clean the stove, and even requiring that you do not flush the toilet unless absolutely necessary! We all know that water is a scarce ressource but she is pushing it.

Here are a few examples of what happened...
- When checking in, she required to "see everyone's face" before she confirmed our booking (we were a couple, on a weekend away).
- She also asked what we were going to do during our stay so we told her about what the lovely lady at the information centre had told us, which she discredited immediately. We told her about a particular walk which "she had never heard of in 10 years that she had been here" so she "required a detailled report on how the walk was". I guess that this was to advise other travellers and that she did not do this with a nasty mind but this was just done the wrong way, in a very intrusive manner.
- We came back at around 10pm one night, and the next day she told us she noticed we came back very late, asked us why this was, what we had been doing, where we had been...this is a backpackers, not my parents' place!
- You can't "just park" on the carpark, you have to park a certain way: front to the curb, wheels touching the concrete bumper (if you are 10 cm away from it, this is not good enough), 90 degrees, and being within the white lines on the ground is not enough, you have to be as close as possible to the car next you. If this is not the way you have parked, she will come and get you in the hostel and make you park the way she wants.
- The day that you check out, she will come and wake you at 9am, to make sure that you are ready to go at 9.45 as per her rules.
- If you are in your room but have left the door slightly open, she will come and close it...

Her husband is however very nice and will give you great advice about the region, he is very caring; a lovely man.

The place is very nice, with a nice outdoor area, and was very clean when we were there but I am not sure whether this was because the property was for sale and she had an inspection when we came or if the place is always that clean. I have however noticed that she changed the tea towels and hand towels daily.

I hope this helps, the oter people who stayed there at the same time as us felt the same way.
Unfortunately this hotel was not listed on tripadvisor before we went, but I now I wish it ad been, we propbably woudl not have stayed there!

Hi,
We (Nick and Lauren) have just taken over South Coast Backpackers on 15th January, 2013.
It is know known as Ulladulla Lodge. Unfortunately this review was posted when the old owners were running the business.
We are a young and friendly couple and we hope you will come and stay with us to see the positive changes that we have made.
Thanks,
Nick and Lauren
