Costa Rica Resort Motel
Reviewed March 24, 2013

Although the grounds were rather messy,[after torrential rain and strong winds] they were soon cleaned up. The room was very clean, the bed comforable, and tea, coffee etc. plentiful. we were disappointed however with position of our room. we upgraded to a deluxe room, supposedly with a patio back and front. The back patio was vitually non existant and only 2 metres from the premises next door. The unusual meal arrangements worked very well for us, we met some interesting friendly people in the kitchen/ dining/ lounge room, where cereals, bread, butter, jams etc were supplied for our continental breakfast, with toasters, frypans, saucepans and cooking ranges ready for you to cook a hot meal any time. The restaurant next door was excellent in decor and menu, it was the best eatery in town for us.. Be warned: if you arrive on a Monday evening as we did and are looking for somewhere to eat, only two places were open for food, the pub and a very ordinary fish and chip shop. ! [ we chose the wrong one] the famous internment camp at Trial Bay was very interesting and the quite amazing internnees made the best of their confinement in various and incredible ways. Fascinating!. there is agood cafe restaurant close by. The scenery is beautiful wherever you go, and the beaches are wonderful.

Room Tip: Be sure of the position of your room with good light and outlook.

Reasonable standard although a little pricey but one of the better hotels and has a great restaurant with a fantastic 2-4-1 meal offer on Wednesday nights. Rooms are large but a little dated and location isnt great as would be 15+ mins walk to town. Friendly staff.

Came here with a dive group. There are many power outlets in the room so no problem in charging your appliances if sharing with others. The interior of the room is alright, not posh. Bathroom is a bit dated but usable. Swimming pool is very small. Best is not to have too much expectation. It is located a distance away from the beach so it might be useful to have a car.

Clean room, a comfy bed (best nights sleep I had had in ages, no kids, LOL) and very accommodating owners, allowing me early check-in to get ready for a function.
And complimentary hot chocolate, not just tea and coffee!

The costa rica is the perfect hotel for that half way stopover from Sydney to Brisbane and vis versa.
The rooms are good but the location is second to none. Try the fish and chips down at horse shoe bay Kiosk (very nice)
For a great dinner, try the contry club, makes for a very good stop over and great meals.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter.

After staying in Ballina in a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment overlooking the river, the Costa Rica
was a major disappointment. There was absolutely no comparison & only a few dollars difference in cost.
Small, outdated rooms with absolutely no aspect at all & well overdue for a refurbishment. The water saving shower alternated from cold to very hot & barely enough to wet yourself. The room however was quiet. How can the operators justify their pricing. We won't be returning!

We stayed for one night in a standard family room. It was small, barely fitting a queen and two singles. The bathroom was tiny dated and had second hand toiletries on offer. The beds were comfortable enough and the rooms were quiet. The motel was clean and the owners very friendly and helpful. There is an adjoining restaurant that looked nice but we chose to have fish and chips on the beach. All in all it was a basic place to stay for one night.
