Avonmore on the park is conveniently located in the eastern suburbs with easy access by car or public transport to the city and beaches. Built in the 1890s as a grand manor it has thick noise-absorbing walls and is situated opposite a park away from main roads. The bliss of being able to sleep undisturbed was wonderful. Although the hotel doesn't provide breakfast it is only minutes walk to a number of cafes and restaurants. While not luxurious the room was comfortable and provided a fridge, microwave and crockery, which meant breakfasting in was a possibility.

We found the staff was particularly helpful and courteous and loved the ambience. Highly recommended.

Avonmore on the Park is a lovely hotel. The hotel is in a historic building on a quiet street just opposite a small park. Our room was very spacious with a good sized en suite with a large shower but no bath. There was a fridge, sink and microwave in the room which was great for breakfasts and making sandwiches for lunch. The bed was very comfortable and there was no problem when we asked for a couple of extra pillows. The rooms were cleaned daily and the whole hotel was extremely clean and well kept. The hotel is very secure and in fact the local police station is just a few doors down and I would feel very happy staying here alone.

The best thing about Avonmore was the friendly and professional management team. There was a delay in my bags arriving from my flight and the staff were very conscientious and helpful making sure that it did arrive in the end. All of the staff we dealt with on the reception desk were extremely helpful and went out of their way to check that we had everything we needed. It definitely made our stay more pleasant and relaxing to know we could ask for any help we needed.

Randwick is a great location with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants nearby. It's about a 20 min walk to the beach (or 5 mins on the bus) and there are frequent buses into the city. The ride to Circular Quay takes about 25 mins or up to 45 in rush hour.

There are only a couple of minor issues with the hotel - firstly there are a lot of stairs and no lift (as it is a historic building), which was no problem at all for us, but it might be something to bear in mind if you have a lot of luggage or a pushchair as you may like to request a ground floor room. The other is that there is no free wifi, and in fact the vouchers are extremely expensive ($15 for two hours, I think). I would recommend using the free wifi at one of the cafes in Randwick or the coin operated machines in the Royal Randwick shopping centre instead.

We stayed here for three nights over new year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend. We stayed on the top floor at the back of the building. It was so peaceful with no road noise, and no noise from adjoining rooms. Loved the old fashioned feel. Staff were helpful. Double bed was a little small, but comfortable - would have preferred king size. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a small kitchenette equipped with basic items suitable for preparing a light meal, with a table and chairs provided for dining. All rooms looked as spacious as ours. There was no a/c and no lift, but this did not pose a problem for us.Only very minor complaint was the poor t.v reception. Would've been nice to be able to pick up a news channel. Hotel is opposite a small park and within a few hundred yards of the cafes, restaurants, shops of Randwick, and the very frequent bus links to the city etc.

Room Tip: Less able may need a low floor room, as no lift provided.

Historic old building with beautifully maintained gardens in tree lined quiet and peaceful setting. We opted for garden view room @AUD$160 pn - 1 night.

1st floor reasonably small room (only to be expected in old building), clean and secure with views over gardens - reasonable bathroom - with modern amenties - good water pressure - small un-vented window in bathroom (difficult to understand) with sign on door warning the bathroom door must be closed when using shower - otherwise fire alarm is activated - creating a AUD$450 penalty?

Double bed which is small when used to larger more comfortable beds - however, bed firm and comfortable.

Location for our purpose - > attending a 50th birthday celebration in nearby function centre was ideal.

Check in/out efficient - we eventually had to ask for 2 additional pillows to supplement the two provided - service friendly + efficient.

As previously mentioned by other reviewers - there are no eating drinking amenities at hotel - however - ample with a couple of minutes walk.

The room was adequately insect screened, however, in the morning found a very large cockroach in a shoe that had been left on the floor overnight - I appreciate that in Oz these nasties are likely to fly in at any opportunity!!

Would we stay here again ? Probably - due to the handy location and interesting surrounding suburbs.

Other reviewers tell the tale: old world charm, friendly management and service, with good restaurants and public transport nearby. If you need huge screen TV air-conditioning, lifts, gyms, saunas and pools, you might consider elsewhere. But we're always delighted when we stay here.

My boyfriend and I stayed there last weekend. it is a very comfortable quiet location. Close to the gay venues we like to visit without being too expensive. Friendly service as well. MAnager gave us great ideas on what to do in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the park.
