The hotel is difficult to find. The entrance from the main roads is not signposted and it took two trips around the block to find the correct entrance road.
The reception process was slow and the staff were unhelpful and unable to answer basic questions about the hotel facilities. I enquired about internet access and the attendant did not know. I found a sign that gave details and those details were shocking. Internet costs were $5.00 per hour or $20.00 per day for each device. When will hotels learn that wifi access is not some luxury add-on but a basic necessity for any traveller and most customers will have multiple internet devices and do not expect to have to logout on one device in order to login on another device. In our case we had 5 devices - 2 smart phones, 2 tablets and a laptop. Wifi access should be included in the room charge with perhaps a ceiling of data (eg 1Gb per day) to prevent abuse.
The room was adequate when we got there but some things could have been better. There was no electrical outlet at the desk to plug-in my laptop or tablet; there was a shower only, no bathtub; and the mattress was too soft for our liking. Some items showed a lack of care: there were food stains on the hotel directory and the pages were stuck together by dried food; two of the power-points were broken and would not supply electricity; and the brochures detailing what was on in the district were three months out of date.
All-in-all, this hotel does not live up to the standards we expect from the Mercure chain and while we would stay here again, it would not be our first choice.
