“Comfortable, but needs a facelift”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

I stayed here in early June 2012 with some work colleagues as part of a conference at the nearby Fairmont Resort. The room was comfortable - the bed was good and the room was spacious. However, the bathroom was quite dated and really needs to be brought into the 21st century - the bathroom window, which needs to be open a little for ventilation, faces the car park and means your neighbours walk by whilst you're showering.

I stayed in one of the deluxe rooms (106 if I remember). However, my colleagues stayed further up towards the main reception and all were a little disappointed in their accommodation.

The parking is limited, particularly if you are staying over a weekend. So, you can be a long way from your room if you've gone out one night - not a major issue, unless you are dressed for a function and it is raining. Not only can you get wet, but the driveway can be slippery to walk on.

The buffet breakfast was good - a reasonable selection of most things that were hot and fresh.

Of most of the staff we came into contact with, I'd say there is a bit of disinterest in what they're doing. If you're going to work in tourism in the Blue Mountains, I think you need to be a little enthusiastic.

I suppose overall I'd say that Waldorf Leura Gardens Resort is representative of most accommodation that I've stayed in in the Blue Mountains over the years - a little underwhelming, in need of upgrading and resting on its laurels.

Room Tip: Maybe choose an upstairs room - downstairs rooms near the main entrance have little light coming in

We arrived at WARDOLF with our pet only to find out the type of room we booked does by allow pets although we had paid the pet fee as instructed on their website. And no apology was given for the confusion because nothing on their website said anything about this. And it left us concerned what we can do now if the pet can't stay.
Anyway luckily we ended up paying abit extra for the right room which took 2 hours to clean, which is also way pass the 2pm check-in time.
The acoomodation setup is more like a motel style rather than hotel, the room we had was spacious with 1 kind and 1 single, bathroom was ok. The backyard had many rubbish an dog poo probably left by the previous visitor. Gate to the next door backyard is not locking properly. There was heater and electrical blanket in room so it's very warm in a cold area like this. Theres also microwave, water kettle provided which is very handy. The shampoo an body wash products are good with quality and pleasant smell. No Wifi in our room. The bed was quite comfortable. Carpet was in dark red color with patterns so not sure if it was the color, it just looked old and not clean.
However, the breakfast was very good, in fact one of the best. Plenty of Aussie style hot food available and they taste good. Plenty if seats indoor and out.
We have travelled extensively around the
world, for about aud$200a night, it's quite expensive for the room we had. We might pay abit more and stay in LILIANFELS next time, it's very close to a few good lookouts. But if you want to visit Leura, WARDOLF is a good option if your standard is not high.

We were booked in to The Garden resort for 3 nights for some R&R. We booked a deluxe suite which wasn't really deluxe....the whole complex needs much spent on an upgrade, but the bones are good and the staff in our circumstances were very accommodating and helpful.

We ended up staying 7 nights, our plans were uncertain but the staff were very flexible, even though they were extremely busy.

Breakfasts were good, nice view to the golf course.....very busy but a quiet and relaxing destination close to attractions. Leura is the best town in our view, very pretty and interesting shops and restaurants.

Our family enjoyed a night away at the Leura Waldorf and a "Faulty Towers" night at the resort's restaurant, what a hoot! The fun night was really enjoyed but be warned, don't go if you can't take a joke. All the Faulty Towers cast were recreated by a very professional team and the fun and banter was non-stop.
The room was quite nice and the breakfast was very good.
The meal as served at the Faulty Towers night was very disappointing. It is best described as the type of one choice only meal that is sometimes served at bottom line very budget functions.

Upon arrival at Waldorf reception to check in for our 3 night stay, we were greeted by a young woman who didn't seem to care less about our presence. She was short and preoccupied with a personal conversation she was having before she gave us her (slight) attention.
The room was alright but lacked a view and needs to be updated as it looked as if it had been the same decor since the 80's. The shower took 5 minutes to warm up and lacked pressure.
We had a nice stay because we drove around and took in the sights, thus didn't need to spend too much time in the room. It is more of a motel than a resort and we would definitely look around for a cozier spot if visiting the area again.

We spent 2 nights at this accomodation and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in a deluxe room which was very spacious with a king bed, had all the facilities to keep warm, electric blankets, air con, wall heater, towel warmers and a heating fan in the bathroom with a separate toilet and a mini bar. Easy enough to find and close to Leura and Katoomba. We had a buffet breakfast which had a reasonable variety of food with more than enough to keep you going for quite a while. If we go back to the area I wouldn't hesitate to book the Waldorf again.

Room Tip: Choose your room according to your needs. We found the deluxe room double very good.

This is a lovely area of the blue mountains, but the rooms dont take full use of the fantastic views. The rooms where lovely, but the main bed was a ittle dodgy, tended to sag in the middle but the added touch of electric blanket was very welcome on those freezing nights. The tv in the main room was good but when the kids went to bed and we went to our room the TV was old and struggled to get a signal. The bathroom was clean but a little dated. The breakfast in the morning was filling but nothing special and the staff are decidely unfriendly. we stood waiting to be seated for 5-10 minutes on every morning, and they clearly saw us waiting. They did not even acknowledge us.
