Classy enough hotel complex which doesn't seem to be able to make up its mind as to whether its an upmarket resort catering for kids or a family friendly resort with aspirations of class. It's prices certainly reflect an upmarket establishment, but go to the restaurants and you would think your in a kindergarten. Prices outlandish ($65 for a buffet dinner - I don't think so) however the food was good, especially when we decided to evacuate the play school restaurant and eat in our room.

Recommended, and the staff try very hard, but try to avoid the school holidays unless you enjoy seeing rocky road, jelly lollies, a chocolate fountain and licorice sticks on the desert bar.

Dear "tafftraveller", thank you for the feedback and also recommendation for others. The Fairmont is popular with families and particularly over school holiday periods. We have incorporated specific facilities for children into our renovation program which now includes a designated indoor enclosed area with climbing castle for children under 4 and shortly a similar second area for kids aged 4 to 7 years. These will provide hours of fun for our younger guests and away from areas for those older.
We look forward to welcoming you back.
Regards,

Geoffrey York

I had heard from numerous people that the Fairmont had gotten a bad rap from A Current Affair a few years ago, and can only assume they have significantly improved since then. The place was very pretty, it was raining while we were there but what we saw of the gardens was beautiful and well cared for. We received an upgrade as the resort was fully booked so I don't know what the cheaper rooms were like but ours was great, Probably smaller than I expected from a resort but clean, cosy and well stocked. We ate dinner out but the breakfast buffet was well stocked and tasty. Would definitely go back there. The only negative comment I could make was that we went there for a Beer festival that they held and when I rang to book the receptionist didn't know anything about it and I had to call around to get details. Not really bad service but I feel all staff should be informed of whats going on in the resort.

The good : Leura is a great town and the hotel is situated with epic views along the Jamison valley with an almost endless vista of mountains. The public areas of the hotel have been recently renovated and look very nice. The 'embers' bar has a huge picture-wall overlooking the valley, a giant log fire and a good choice of beers and spirits (I can recommend the White Rabbit ale). My room was very nice with a good bed. The health club area was very nice with a well equipped gym. I didn't try the pool(s) but they looked good. The breakfast buffet was very comprehensive and high quality.

The not so good : My TV didn't work and still didn't work three days later when I checked out, despite complaining twice. The shower was distinctly 'meh'. My view was of a service road and was a good 300 yards from reception. Despite confirming the departure date when checking in, they thought I was staying 2 nights instead of 3 - deactivating my card and not cleaning the room. (remember that 300 yard walk? Well fancy walking to the room, finding the card inactive, walking back to reception and then back to the room .... not everyday you get to trek a kilometre INSIDE the hotel!). Despite the room rate being pretty high - it's still $20/day for WiFi internet access - we had a conference room booked for 8 people - each of them had to pay $20. How much is a whole month worth of internet? Bet it's not as much as $160. A DAY... The bar food in the Embers bar was pretty good, but overpriced and despite having draught beer - they only had 'demi' glasses (half-pint to Brits) which is pretty po-faced.

Overall - actually a pretty good hotel and despite the moans, I would stay here again. But the 3/5 score fairly reflects the quality compared to price.

We stayed here in Aug (few months ago), so right in the middle of Winter. Staying here was a splurge at $300/n but it was a special occasion. The hotel's location is great, tucked away in a quiet area near Sublime Point. It's away from all the crowds & there's a nice view of the mountains from the foyer & bar.

- Due to it's location & seclusion, at night the dining & entertainment options are particularly limited. If the restaurant buffet doesn't interest you (which didn't for us) the only other option is eating at the bar where there's only a small handful of tables. Luckily we grabbed a table when one became available. We feel we made the right choice as the pizza's were delicious & was much better value. After 7pm when all the families with kids head back to their rooms there's finally some peace & it was great sitting by the fireplace on a cold Winter's night.

- Nice gardens & pond to walk around. On a busy weekend parking is a problem.

- The superior room is very spacious, recently renovated with a nice feel. Very comfy bed. One downside is that our TV had very poor reception & no DVD player. When you are paying so much for a room & there's basically no entertainment around, on a Winter's eve most ppl I imagine would want to stay in & watch something, but this was not possible & the only option (naturally) is to purchase overpriced in house movies. This was a bit disappointing when we had already paid so much to stay here.

- The second disappointment is that the rooms have paper thin walls. When your neighbors wake up in the morning, you'll be waking up. We were woken at 7am by our inconsiderate neighbor who was speaking loudly on his mobile for about an hour & clearly had no idea how thin the walls were & that we could hear both ends of his conversation.

- A note about their marketing & the staff. The special offers listed on their website are misleading. Without elaborating too much, they don't give you what they claim to & we found two cases of misleading advertising. On a similar note, the staff knew it was a special occasion for us but didn't seem to care and didn't offer us anything special, even after they disappointed us with the special deal inclusion, so I can't say much for them.

Ali in all it was a nice & pleasant stay. Nice grounds & out of town, but it's pot luck with your neighbors that you'll hear through the thin walls & the staff could have been much more accommodating. For what it is, it is very overpriced. Fairmont + Blue Mountains...guess you have to expect that.

Room Tip: Ask them to put you next to a vacant room (if there is one) so you don't have to hear other ppl...

We recently stayed at this hotel on the 8-9 October 2012. This is the third time a have stayed at this hotel and things have changed for the worse. The hotel is currently undergoing major renovations and there is dust and noise everywhere. Whilst we did use a discount voucher it would have been decent of the hotel to inform us of this at the time of booking. Then we discovered that they had a major beer festival on the previous 2 nights and the staff were well just exhausted. In addition 3 of the 4 restaurants in the hotel were closed leaving us one restaurant to eat at. The bar at the lobby level was not even opened up so everyone was crowded down into the one remaining bistro for drinks and dinner.

The hotel is apparently going to open up as an upmarket M Gallery hotel under the Accor Advantage banner well at this rate it may receive 2 stars definitely not the 5 star rating they are looking for.

The voucher I used was for bed and breakfast. When I tried to use my Accor membership to receive the customary 50% discount on food they decided not to honor this. So much for Accor advantage membership benefits. My advice is to get a discount voucher because they are really cheap, eat out and don't waste your time becoming a member of Accor its just a waste of time and money. There are so many great boutique restaurants in the blue mountains, this is definitely one to avoid unless of course you can get a really cheap discount voucher.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on level 3 or 4 anything else is not worth it, no views and noisy

Dear Owl 4000, thank you for your feedback which is appreciated and our apologises for the disruption to your stay created by our refurbishment program. We do make all endeavours to minimize the impact of these to our guests and we will revisit this following your comments. There is however limited works now occuring with one of the final improvements being construction of an external terrace adjacent to our Jamison Restaurant. The Accor Advantage Plus program of which you are a member does offer excellent discounts in our restaurants but is not available in conjunction with other heavily discounted offers we periodically offer.
We hope we may be able to welcome you back.
Regards,

Geoffrey York

Very comfortable, clean and good service.

Close to services, restaurants and tourist sites.

We love the walk to Leura as it's not too far but going both ways helps to work off the lunch ;-)

Amazing views. Brekky is really good. Best off getting this as part of the room package as you'll save heaps.

Room service food just ok.
