“wonderful French food”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

Excellent French food in a pleasant restaurant setting. Our party of 4 booked our table for 6 pm. This is a good tip for winter diners because the food service is slow. However, it was worth the wait because the quality of all the meals was excellent. Background French music not too loud for older diners wanting to talk.

“Amazing View”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

The food here is very yummy and the view is absolutely amazing - go during the day and you can sit outside with possibly the best view in the Blue Mountains across the Jamieson Valley. The coffee was a bit disappointing though - they could do with getting the coffee maker (lovely french woman) to go on a barista course.

Lovely aromas on entering this restaurant. the Food was delicious and so glad I finally got to visit. Have been waiting about 25 years to visit here. It has ambiance, beautiful white clothes, glassware and silverware. Thoroughly recommend you go.

“Is this for real”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

My partner and I have been visiting this restaurant for over 20 years. We had the unfortunate experience of visiting once the new owners had taken over. I cannot believe that I would be served Stake Tartar as a great round lump of raw mince, raw egg on top, with chips and salad! No condiments, capers, onion, nothing it was disgusting and this was the entrée. My partner ordered Confit of Duck and received, what resembled a duck neck, Potato Dauphine which tasted like it came out of a packet and a strange sauce that looked like red nail polish. There was no inviting aroma of French food and the service was dreadful. The staff answer the phone as "Yeah". To add insult to injury on the bill they charged the entrée as a main meal so they had given me two main meals, the other was fish which was not quite as unpleasant as the duck. We did not stay for dessert we couldn't wait to get out. At least was had a laugh as it was about the worst food and service we have ever had. It is a shame because once it was a very beautiful restaurant.

“C'est magnifique!”
Reviewed May 4, 2014 via mobile

We are long-term Rooster goers and after a very disapponting experience 12 months ago were hesitant about going back. The fabulous reviews on Trip Advisor regarding the changes under the new owners changed our minds. We went on Saturday night and were seated on the verandah. We were sligtly disappointed as we do like sitting inside near the fire but the verandah was heated nicely and you would never know it was only 3 degrees outside. They have installed a large bar in the room near the front door and to compensate have turned the upstairs guest lounge into a dining area. We were very happy to see good French favourites like escargots, lambs kidneys, cheese souffle, duck and coq au vin on the menu. After ordering, we were pleasantly surprised when we heard what was obviously live music playing a combination of easy listening tunes from Norah Jones, Michael Buble, Jack Jones and French cafe music. We were even more pleasantly surprised when we received an amouse bouche, a silky smooth shot of chestnut mousse - unbelievable! This was of course accompanied by fresh, crunchy, warm baguette. My wife ordered escargots and the cheese souffle, I had kidneys and coq au vin. All fabulous! We finished as did a previous reviewer with the cheese plate and a recommended French merlot - a perfect match! Service by the all French young waitstaff was friendly and efficient. The food, service and atmosphere - tres bon! But then add to all of that the fantastic trio performing the live music. They are called Jammin' Fingers and consist of father Geoff and sons Will and Ben. They have an amazing sound. We and another party moved in from the verandah to the room they were playing and even though they were due to finish, they played two requests each. They perform at The Rooster every Saturday night so I thoroughly recommend dining when they are playing. The courtyard has been renovated and there are other renos underway. We are so glad that the new owners are breathing new life into this mountains icon. Vive The Rooster!
