This is a long overdue review. We stayed at Old Rose Master suite (for 3pax) in mid June for 2 nights. When we checked out the reviews of this guesthse, it wasn't really optimistic.

The location was a long walk from the train station, via a rather long steep slope, at least 15~20mins if you are lugging your lugguage. The house is an old world charm on its own. The lady at the recept was friendly. Our room was on the 1st floor and boy, we were pleased on how the vintage furniture was maintained. You can't find these in standard business hotels. The 4-poster bed was equipped with electric blankets which are life savers for those hailing from the tropical islands. The 3rd bed, though w/o electric blanket, are layered generously with blankets.

The self serviced breakfast is simple: bread, toast, cornflakes, milk, butter, jam, coffee, tea etc. You can of course stock up from the nearby Cole supermarket and put in their common fridge.

During last day of check out, they also allowed us to put our lugguage in their storeroom.

I actually broke a wine glass in the room and the owner was very very kind enough to tell me not to worry about it.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We purchased the guest house in May 2012, and it's great to receive feedback from our guests. We do provide a pick up/drop off service from/to Katoomba station, on request. We are located mid-way between Echo Point and the Town Centre and close to many popular bush walks. We have made many improvements to the property since you stayed with us in June, and we hope to welcome you back sometime in the future.
Warm Regards
Iain & Evelyn

Iain and Evelyn have been working to restore the Kurrara since they bought it back in May 2012. Their passion for sympathetic restoration, attention to detail and comfort will result in something special: what they've achieved so far and what they're planning is proof of that. Expect comfortable, spacious, vintage, tastefully furnished rooms; spotlessly clean bathrooms; a plentiful breakfast and a real desire to ensure their guests are well looked after. The guest house is located within easy walking distance of restaurants, the train station and the start of some spectacular walks out from Leura and Katoomba. So, disregard any reviews that were posted under the previous management and check out the rooms on the new website.

Our family of 7 stayed in 3 rooms in early November. The differentiating factor between this establishment and the other hotels is the host Evelyn. She was warm and very helpful and made us feel very welcome. She even went online to check some info for my upcoming trip to Sydney and made recommendations on some of the less well known places of interest around blue mountain. On one particular cold night, she got a portable radiator to warm the room for us even though every rooms have heating coil. It was great as we were traveling with 2 young kids and a warm room is so welcome, especially after showering.
The rooms were generally clean and the bed soft and very comfortable. We had trouble waking up in the morning as the weather and bed made us so reluctant to leave the comfort of the room. Size of the rooms were normally smaller than bigger hotel chain but we kind of prefer a more homely setting for our stay. The fireplace in a clear winner. Coming from a tropical country, the fireplace in the dining area definitely warms our heart and body during the cold night and it was a treat sitting with the family around the fireplace and having a hot drink. You can make your own coffee or tea in the dining area. It is definitely small warm touches like these that makes Kurrara such a great place to stay. Great job Evelyn. You have made our stay filled with warm happy memories.

We stayed at Kurrara for a couple of nights and it was perfect. The new owners have done a brilliant job at bringing this house back to its former glory. It's inviting, relaxing and in a great location - it was a lovely 15/20 minute stroll down the the Three Sisters. We were given great information about local attractions and we also appreciated the recommendations for local restaurants. Breakfast is simple and exactly what you need to start a day of exploring the lovely Blue Mountains area. Would highly recommend staying here!

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs are quieter if you are after a sleep-in. Other guests eating their breakfast may wak...

Enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at Kurrara. Couldn't fault the amenities. Quality and stylish bedlinen, a delightful room. We stayed in the Lily room, and had a double and a single bed which were so comfortable!. A very cosy and welcoming guest area, wonderful assortment of teas (top marks Evelyn), and lots of local information provided by friendly and knowledgeable hosts.
Just a great place to stay, and really look forward returning on my next trip to Sydney. Eileen

Room Tip: So good to have the 2 beds, even if you only need one. Just makes sharing a room more pleasant.

We've had several fantastic stays at Kurrara, and as a couple who usually camp and climb, there are not a lot of options in the Blue Mts that justify the expense over the savings of free camping.

But after an insane week, it's hard to justify NOT staying here with cheap prices, awesome double spas, complimentary port, and the clincher for me, amazing gluten-free breakfast options (on request) with more kinds of tea and jam than any home I've ever visited! Especially with improvements from the new management (whose customer service has been excellent and friendly), this place is awesome!

Not for party-ers, as it's an old 2-storey house divided into guest house, but for cozy conversations with fellow randoms round the fire, it's perfect.
