“Surprisingly charming”
Reviewed February 6, 2009

We drove into the Blue Mountains and since we were 'winging it', we asked the i-site where to stay. We wanted somewhere where we had a nice view. They recommended to stay at the Jamison House.
When we got there, we did have a bit of a hard time finding someone to let us into our room. However, once we found someone they showed us to our cozy, little, french-style room.
The room was small, but clean and well decorated. It had a canopy bed, a flat screen tv, and a walkout door to the veranda.
The veranda was really nice, as it had several tables and I am sure an amazing view. Unfortunately, it was foggy that night so we didn't see much. And in the morning, it was really foggy so we didn't see anything!
The B&B was very close to echo point and the three sisters, so we were very happy about that. We went out and did a little hiking and found some dinner and when we came back, since there is a restaurant there, we ordered a nice bottle of wine for our room. The wine was great, but what was really impressive was that the concierge lit a fire for us in a room right off the veranda. Since nobody else was there, we happily enjoyed our wine in front of the fire and headed off to our room for a nice nights sleep.
The breakfast was pretty standard, but filling and we didn't have to search for food.
All in all, we liked our stay, and would have no qualms about returning.

A very strange kind of place - stuck in another age like Katoomba in general really.

Our room had a lovely bed and a huge TV. The bathroom was a bit shabby though. The restaurant is a tad pricey but worth a splurge as the food is excellent. Also perfect if you don't want to head out. Follow up afterwards with a drink and chess in front of the fire (Katoomba isn't that Rock n Roll!)

If you are into hiking there is also a walk down into the valley from just accross the road which leads eventually to the base of the Giant Stairway up to Echo Point (one of the best views in the area).

Overall we liked it.

Really enjoyed our stay at Jamison House. The view was magnificent with outstanding sunsets to watch from the enclosed balcony. We had dinner one night here as well and the food was very very good and well worth the cost which in pounds is not as much as people have mentioned.
We had specially prepared drinks and the waiter remembered what we liked for the next day as well.
Interesting breakfast with a DIY attitude but lots and lots of food. Certainly enough to take with us on our walks.
Also if you cross over the road from the B&B the start of a national park walk is there.
Good service, great food and helpful people.
Can't fault this B&B at all

I want to just re-affirm what others have said about this place, and add that they have a reasonable value internet special available on their website at (--). We decided to do a midweek overnight there with another couple, and we really enjoyed it.

The flat screen TVs on the walls were quite the contrast in the period style bedrooms. The views from the enclosed guest balcony, but not the rooms, over the Jamison Valley, were fantastic. I've posted pix of the view and the property. We had Room 3, king size bed, very comfy. Yes the owner, Michael I think, can be a little brusque, but isn't unfriendly.

The included dinner was great, French style and well presented. It looked pricey if you order a la carte, wines were too, so we BYO some known personal favourites.

Yes the "self cook" eggs for breakfast are a bit of a hassle in the little space to prep them, but the breakfast spread in its entirety was wonderful. Eating it out on the enclosed balcony overlooking the valley was a great way to start the day.

Depending on the other guests it can be a little noisy in the morning, it IS after all a B&B type place, and some people have no consideration for others :-)

I'd certainly do the package again.

  • Liked — A B&B with dinner package as per expectations
  • Disliked — Could be noisy depending on other people's consideration of others in mornings

We had a lovely 3 day stay here in the Blue Mountains. Breakfast was left outside our room each morning on covered plates, and there was plenty extra to take for lunch! A lovely lounge is provided in which to sit and eat breakfast if you choose, overlooking the Blue Mountains. Dinner here is quite pricy but delicious, and well presented. The staff were friendly, and it's only a 15 minute walk into the town (although seems longer when it's throwing it down with rain, which it does a lot there....).

Nice rooms, comfy beds, and a good bathroom. Plenty of snacks in the room, and a toaster and hard boiled egg cooker too.

  • Liked — The breakfast and the views
  • Disliked — Little bit pricy.

We arrived at Jamison's as part of our honeymoon trip around Oz and were not disappointed by its location which overlooks the stunning Jamison Valley in the Blue Mountain National Park.

Jamison's is a late Victorian house with lots of original features although from the outside it looks less than impressive opening straight onto the road (quiet road and easy to park) with no garden and rather shabby paintwork. The gorgeous first floor verandah has been enclosed with rather cheap looking storm windows as well which detracted from the appearance.

Having stayed at some fantastic properties in Sydney and the Hunter valley, our initial thoughts on the guest house were poor. This was compounded by our welcome which was muted to say the least. In fact the rather brusque hello from the German owner, the slight whiff of dog and the lack of anyone to help with the cases led us to contacting a couple of other guest houses and contemplating doing a bunk!

However we had paid up front for the two nights so decided to persevere. And surprisingly we were very glad we did!

The room was handsomely furnished in period style with its own access to the veranda, Breakfast was a serve yourself affair- in fact actually cook it yourself- eggs, bread etc were left outside your door with facilities in a tiny cramped kithcen area attached to the room. Again this was poor - at these prices I expected a proper breakfast.

However the guest house's saving grace is the lovely resident's lounge, furnished with antiques, games, books and a fantastic open fire. Nights are chilly in the mountains so this was very romantic. Another nice gesture was the decanter of port provided.

I would advise eating at the restaurant downstairs. The food was excellent and both waiters were very friendly if a little stretched.
