“A great choice”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We were coming to the Blue Mountains for the first time, for some hiking and relaxing. I found Lurline House on Trip Advisor, and decided to give it a try. Couldn't have been happier with my choice. It was an easy two hours by train from Sydney. Peter picked us up from the train station, and gave us a lot of great ideas about things to do and places to eat. The city center, plenty of trail heads, and a lovely day spa were in walking distance. The room was quaint, but clean and with all the amenities we needed - including a small sitting area opening out to the porch. Breakfast was more than ample fuel for a day of hiking. Would definitely stay there again!

My wife and I stayed at the Lurline House January 28-30. We arrived by train in a drenching rainstorm and were met at the station by our host, Peter. From this point until he returned us to the station 3 days later, everything about our experience at the B & B was topnotch. We were pleasantly surprised to find we has been given an upgrade to a spacious 2 bedroom adjacent cottage/suite at no additional charge. With Peter's advice and assistance we were able to quickly orient ourselves to the area including Katoomba and the main attractions of the Blue Mountains. The excellent breakfast was a variety of cold and hot options prepared and presented by Peter and his wife, hostess Susannah. We have stayed at many B & B's over the years, both throughout the U.S. and abroad, and we agreed that this was indeed one of the best we've experienced.

My mum and I loved this B & B place. It is a quaint house with lovely homely appointed rooms. The bedroom with a comfy 4 poster bed was beautiful. The reading room in the room was lovely with a kettle, tea and coffee. The bathroom was a nice size. Toiletries provided. The breakfast area was great with an amazing breakfast selection, cooked and served to you by the hosts. The lounge area were you could read a book, paper or play chess. Little garden with birds and cuckatoos feeding at feeder. This accommodation is central with town a short walk away. The Three Sisters lookout and Echo Point was also close by (walking distance10 minutes). There are a wide selection of eateries up the street into the town. The station is nearby. Hop on hop bus nearby. We had a car but you could get by without one using the Hop on hop off bus.

I am sorry to say that my experience does not match those of other TA reviewers.

The room itself was small and generally disappointing. The decor was drab and needed a little TLC . The Wi-Fi only worked in the main lobby area and TV reception was grainy. The candles in the bathroom were a lovely touch and breakfast was very good. The lady owner seemed very pleasant and circulated with a cheery smile.

It just didn't have the wow factor or live up to the reviews that we had read.

Lurline House is great. The hosts are very hospitable and ready to offer advice on things to do locally. There are some nice touches such as tea and cakes on arrival and port and chocolate available after dinner. The rooms are comfortable, there is a lot of local information available and an easy to use fast internet connection. Breakfast is delicious. Lurline House is in a good location, within walking distance of Echo Point, and a few doors away from the excellent Pins on Lurline restaurant. An added bonus (for us foreigners) are the cockatoos and crimson rosellas (parrots) in the garden. .

Cannot speak highly enough of this fabulous B & B. From the warm welcome, the excellent room with everything thought of to the hearty breakfast. Peter and Sue have this sussed, he is a lecturer in hotel management and puts it into practice in an amazing way, we recommend it and will be back

Room Tip: We had the garage. Deluxe room with spa. Recommended

Just spent 3 nights in Lurline House. What can I say other than marvellous! We stayed in the cottage which was impeccably clean and tidy. Breakfast each morning was wonderful. A choice of cereals fresh fruit salads mueslis and toast, followed by a cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs any way we liked, or pancakes or French toast or omelet. So much choice it was hard to decide. I would not hesitate to recommend Lurline House for a getaway of any length.
