“An elegant old hotel that has been remodelled”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We enjoyed our stay at the Mountain Heritage Hotel on March 20, 2013. It is. a grande old dame that was built in 1908. The rooms are a decent size with high ceiling and are clean with modern ammenities such as a fridge, ironing board, hair dryer, and the bed had a comfortable mattress.

The main floor has several sitting areas with large windows and great views of the dramatic cliffs of the Blue Mountains.

the dining room also has beautiful views of the mountains, and the food is good; We ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel. If you prefer to eat in the town, the main street with a number of restaurants is a five minute walk from the hotel.

Internet is usually available (you get one hour free) in your room, but the day we stayed there they were having trouble with their router so we had to come down to one of the sitting rooms to use the net, which given the comfortable chairs and great views was no hardship!

If you are looking for a touch of elegance, I recommend this lovely little hotel.

Room Tip: they had a special on for a 'non-view' room when we stayed there which we didn't mind as...

Chose this hotel for its view, and our room had a beautiful view. On arriving, it was hard to find reception and there was a stuffy smell on entering the 19th century building. Very dated decor. Staff was helpful, wifi expensive with only intermittent service. Breakfast was excellent, spa in another building - did not use it. Room was clean and adequate size, but could hear everything in the corridor. Overall suspect we could have found better value elsewhere.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are worth it.

Dear mooreca53
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, unfortunately there was some noise in the corridor, as our technicians worked to restore the fluctuating wi-fi signal. We apologise for the inconvenience this caused you , and the negative affect it had on your stay with us.
We have decided to upgrade to a larger capacity, latest technology system with faster response times and larger bandwith enabling us to provide a better, free wi-fi service.
We are sorry the decore did not match your expectations, the furniture and fittings are not out-dated, they are designed to match the era and reflect the history of the original Blue Mountains Guest Houses.
It is pleasing however, your room was satisfactory and you enjoyed the beautiful view, helpful staff and excellent breakfast..
Thank you once again for providing some feedback we can act on to improve our product offering.

We spent the weekend here and absolutely loved it. The common areas had charm and the rooms were clean and tastefully decorated.
We ate dinner at the restaurant, the service and food were outstanding.
The only negative was breakfast, which was a little disappointing for the price.

Room Tip: Choose a valley view room, the views are amazing.

I booked a room for my parents travelling to Sydney and they provided great feedback, loving the location, wonderful views, helpful and friendly managers and staff. 1920s style with modern conveniences, very clean and comfortable rooms and a great feel about it.

We enjoyed our stay here the views when we could see them were breath taking, it was in cloud for 2 of our 3 day stay. The room was huge and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful especially the waiter on our first evening (Sat 19th Jan). Our only disappointment after having such a lovely evening meal was the restaurant was then shut on Sun' and Mon' evenings! Not great when we were leaving on the Tues'. However I would still rate this hotel.

Room Tip: If you want to eat in do not book a Sunday or a Monday

I was taken here for a birthday weekend by my partner and it was the most lovely place I've stayed in Katoomba (I used to live in Katoomba so I am very familiar with all it's accommodations).
We had a Heritage View Room, which was enormous with the most breathtakingly beautiful view, as the hotel is perched on a hill.
I loved the ambience - the halls are full of old black and white photographs of the property, the decor is gorgeous art-deco and we LOVED the pianist who plays every Saturday night. The cocktails are great and although we didn't eat at the restaurant, I think it's views would be among the best in Katoomba...
History-buffs will appreciate this glimpse into the past. Relaxation seekers will love the view and the spa facilities. Easy walking distance to the main street.
I am pretty sure it's got some ghosts, but they were not negative at all...:)

Room Tip: Do yourself a favour and splash out for a room with a view

A special gift for a night away with my husband left us both disappointed. For a start the cost per night in NZD288.00 was acceptable at the time of researching what was available so on arrival it was not acceptable. Entry to this hotel is through a side door that says "reception" but then there is short walk through a hall way to a very sad dark reception desk. What was so noticeable at the first step in to the building was the smell. Somewhere between disinfectant and an old peoples' home. Horribly strong and offensive. Back to reception. The key was handed over with instructions that we go up the spiral staircase to our room. No offer of suitcase handlng which I feel very strongly about for the cost of room. The reception and staff were abysmal I am sad to say. The room- as booked a view to the Blue Mountains which was lovely. Bathroom clean and very adequate. Fabulous bed, tv that would only go on One channel and no WIFI . What year are we in??? This grand old lady boasts she has had $A5m spent on her . I would very much liked to have had the opportunity to discuss certain aspects on our departure but the receptionist did not look up from her desk and I think she said Thank you.

Room Tip: Do ask for the Jamieson view room. The website makes everything look v glam.

Dear MonBichon
Thank you for your comments. I am not sure what smell you are referring to as the deodorising spray we use is one called Floral Mist which is used in many accommodation properties throughout Australia.
The receptionist on duty cannot recall your check in and check out situation but we do pride ourselves on our very friendly service and as part of our check in procedure we always ask guests if they require assistance with luggage whilst they are advising guests about all our facilities etc.
The new LED flat screen TV in your room has a total of 13 channels and all are operational so I can't understand how you could only manage to find one. Reception staff or our duty manager would have been happy to assist you if you had advised us. We do have Wi Fi available on request.
I am happy that you found the facilities in you room very clean and the bed was comfortable.
Thank you once again for your comments
