Located on the road between Katoomba town and Echo Point it is conveniently situated. It is a mere 2 minute walk to the high street where lots of cafes and restaurants are available.
The room was clean and reasonably big, with a tiny table with two dining chairs for a meal or read.
In addition to the central air-conditioning the room was provided with individual temperature control, making it easy to be comfortable.
The bed was fine but we found the pillows a bit thin and hard.
Don't count on using the spa for relaxation. The jacuzzi is too small to accommodate more than a couple of persons, making it awkward to use if one arrives after it is already occupied by more than one person. The sauna is fine.
Struggling up the stairs (no lifts) with heavy luggage I wondered how elderly guests would cope.
I would suggest the management install ramps in the corridors where there are steps between levels (on the same floor) to ease the passage of guests wheeling their luggage.

Ron and his staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The ambience of the place was old world and charming. There are plenty of lounges to sit and have a chat with friends. Our rooms were clean and large. The place did need a little bit of paint here and there but I understand this is in the process of being done and did not worry us in the least. There was a spa and sauna which we were going to try but unfortunately we run out of time.. Our friends and ourselves thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay and would recommend the experience to everyone..

Room Tip: Chose a top floor room as the floor boards tend to creak a bit.

I booked a room 3 nights before we were due to leave which was 14th of September which was a Saturday. I called up to book their last minute deal room which said was unavailable on their website. They were so helpful and found me the room I had requested which was just brilliant. I paid $200 for the room for 1 night on a Saturday. This came with a bottle of sparkling wine and breakfast the next day. We arrived a little concerned that it was right on the main street in Katoomba and on the road, we had a speedy check in and found our room. The wine arrived shortly after we had found our room. It was perfect, wine on ice with chilled glasses already in the fridge when we arrived. No faults with the room it was beautiful and really spacious with a king sized bed, vanity table and small table for 2 to sit at and lots of room around that. Along with the usual bedside tables tv and wardrobe/minibar & fridge (which was overpriced at $4 per item) The bathroom was lovely and clean also. Our room was room 311 upstairs right at the front of the Hotel. It wasn't a problem at all we were concerned about the road noise which there was none and the curtains were great and blocked out all lights from the street too! The breakfast was a pretty standard buffet breakfast: bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns and beans. They also had toast, cereals, fruits and yogurt to have with it. I wasn't that impressed with it for the money we were spending really but I would have only liked more variety with the hot food so its not a big issue. We weren't aware that we were allowed to use the spa facilities when I booked which was disappointing as we didn't bring any bathing suits so we couldn't do that. Other than that a great location for us to celebrate my partners 21st Birthday.

Room Tip: 311 is a beautiful room, looks out over the road on the front of the Hotel. No road noise or light c...

Stayed recently at the Palais Royale which is trying its best to keep up with the other more glamorous establishments in Katoomba. Please don't get me wrong, the room as spotless & clean, the bed was comfortable & the shower lovely and hot.The weekend we stayed was extremely windy & the windows rattled constantly. The windows all need fixing & new paint work is desperately needed. The lounge rooms are exceptional but the rising damp is a real problem in other parts of the guesthouse. The breakfast was tasty enough & plentiful. As we bought this on a voucher we would in no way have paid the full asking rate per night. All in all this review is only trying to improve this guesthouse's standing.

Dear Greg,

Thank you for taking the time to Review The Palais Royale. Yes we are indeed one of the few hotels in Katoomba with a grand History, each offering their own individual atmosphere-some modern some heritage. Paint work and replacement of old wood in windows has already been scheduled in as part of our room and building upgrade to be completed by the end of the year. We are pleased that you enjoyed other aspects of the hotel such as the room, bed and shower and also our breakfast buffet.

Staff and new management appreciate your feedback as it brings us one step closer to providing the high standard that we are reaching for.

I was very disappointed to find that the log fire places were not the real wood fire that I expected but a gas log fire.I had especially chosen this place for this reason, envisioning sitting by the fire sipping wine of an evening, so was very disappointed! The room was comfortable despite windows which rattled with the wind (which I chocked with paper) and some peeling paint in the bathroom ceiling. It was still an enjoyable stay as we really appreciate old buildings.
We had bought a discounted voucher for our stay so we were happy with what we found, but had we paid full price I'm not sure.

Dear Guest ,

Thank you for taking the time to review The Palais Royale. We appreciate the feedback as it allows us to improve what we can offer to our guests.
Our hotel does have 2 gas fire places yes, these were installed as part of the amazing restoration 16 years ago and is to create a warm atmosphere for guests wishing to enjoy a relaxed evening in our Gold Lounge. I apologise that the impression you were given was that our fireplaces are wooden. Our building is a heritage building and we unfortunately do have old windows . We have been working on minimizing the droughts so our guests are comfortable and cosy during their stay. We are also in the process of having the paint work touched up.
We appreciate your feedback as it allows us to improve in area's that need improving and revive the hotel to its true form.

We have been travelling to Katoomba for 16 years and have stayed at Palais Royale for the last 5 consecutive years. The new Management, Ron in particular, was so welcoming and also professional. The room was spotlessly clean, the beds soft and comfortable and the service of all the staff is exceptional! Being a historical building the upkeep of the property has been well maintained and this should also be a credit to Management. We had a steaming hot delicious full breakfast and beautiful coffee by the fire every morning of our stay. The service and attention to detail surpasses many other establishments in the area and we can't wait to return again next year! Thank you Ron and all the lovely staff at Palais Royale Katoomba. See you again soon!
