Excellent, nicely located hostel. Rooms are small and simple but the beds are good and you sleep great after a days walk! Warm and cozy atmosphere, staff and guests are all very nice.

This place was a great choice for me and my husband. The place is clean and conveniently situated. Staff is very nice. They let us use a big room for us to watch a movie.
Also the kitchen is big and clean and we felt like cooking that night and felt at home.

I would definitely recommend this place.

This hostel provides excellent facilities in a really lovely setting. We stayed 3 nights in a double room with ensuite facilites. The room was cosy, warm and clean and decorated in a really nice way. The hostel building is a converted Art Deco mansion and has somereallylovely features.

Reception staff are really friendly and helpful - they had loads of suggestions for things to do in the area. The kitchen was huge and the cleanest and most weel organised I've seen anywhere - it literally was spotless! There is a quiet reading roomm with big chairs and sofas for relaxing on and a games area with pinball and pool tables. The laundry room was well equiped and cheap and there is a big screen TV room with a huge selection of videos to watch.

Katoomba itself is a lovely area - there was loads to do and despite being really unlucky with the weather (we didn't actually get to see the 3 Sisters because of the mist) we weren'tbored for a second. I'd definitly recommend a visit to Leura too.

We booked this hostel through the Hostelling International website and the three nights stay came to less than a hundred pounds (uk) between us - a total bargain!

In December '05 my girlfriend and I stayed here in a double room with ensuite for 3 nights. We weren't quite sure what to expect from the hostel or the Blue Mountains region in general, but happily we found it to be an overwhelmingly positive experience.

This YHA has apparently won the accolade of 'best hostel in Australia' several times over the years, and with good reason. Only 10 mins walk along the high street from Katoomba train station (that's one heck of a hill though!), this spacious and open Art Deco building is manned by friendly and knowledgable staff (in the main) who really make the place what it is.

On check-in we were provided with clean sheets and towels, as well as an information sheet giving invaluable details about the hostel's facilities, Katoomba itself, and even a number of notable walks in the area. It turned out the famous '3 Sisters' were all of 15 mins walk away, or 2 hours if you take the scenic route like we did! Ridiculous amounts of additional info about other attractions in the local area is also available here.

Our room was clean and basic as you'd expect from a YHA, with a double bed (and single bunk above), bench/luggage rack, small desk and chair, full-length mirror, and even a framed photo of a local beauty spot for that homely touch. Our private toilet/shower-room was large, fairly modern and spotlessly clean too.

The large communal areas are all well-maintained, from the well-equipped kitchen to the adjoining dining room, reading room, lounge, internet room, laundrette, TV room, rear patio and barbeque area... The kitchen was also a great place to get chatting to the other guests!

Maybe it's something to do with the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Blue Mountains, but there was a real sense of calm here, of mutual interest, cooperation and respect. Everyone here, staff and guests alike (ages ranged from children to sprightly pensioners), seemed to realise how special this place was and were keen to keep it that way.

This was easily the best hostelling experience I've had to date. Highly recommended.

This is the place to stay for an overnight in Katoomba. In fact it's one of the best hostels we've ever been to. A great center of operations to explore the Blue Mountains. Note enjoy the numerous bake shops along Katoomba St. while there.
