“Enjoyable stay in Australian Wilderness”
Reviewed February 26, 2010

This is our 1st trip to Australia and we found this little hotel by recommendation. Earlier, we checked into the 4 Seasons Sydney and were recommended to drive around Blue Mountains and to check out this hotel. Luckily, they had availability and we checked in on a dinner bed and breakfast package. It is quite contemporary for the Mountains as most of the accommodation available were either heritage properties for old hotels/B&Bs which look a little run down. This property was polished and had great air circulation and did not smell like a heritage property. All rooms back out to the Valley with views and the restaurant was at the top level with a central bar & lounge area. The only complaint was the size of the bathrooms, a bit tight for larger people and we could do with a spa tub .

The staff were very helpful and we had continental breakfast in bed as our room enjoys wonderful vista at sunrise. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for views and location. The room sizes were standard, although we spent a lot of time outside on the balcony. The only other facilities is a day spa and restaurant/lounge which overlooks the Jamison valley to the south and a garden courtyard to the north. Complimentary wireless and DVD collection is available at the hotel and can be handy on misty days as there is not much to do except sleep or eat. The day spa menu is available for in-house guests only but you need to book in advance.

Booked last minute on wotif.com for a 50% discount on the standard room rate, which brought the cost down from astronomical to pricey. I'd seen the reviews on tripadvisor which were polarising. The reality, in our experience, was that our stay was good, but let down by a few smaller details that really shouldn't have been the case for a hotel in this price range.

To get this straight - the views are simply breathtaking. There can't be anywhere better in the Blue Mountains. The staff are very friendly, but when a hotel is in the $400-600 a night price bracket, you wouldn't expect the following:
- the receptionist not to know about the clifftop walk just behind the hotel when we asked about walks in the area.
- a room service drink order to take 45 minutes especially when a no-BYO rule is enforced.
- the staff in the $95-per-head-for-3-courses restaurant to look puzzled when asking for a wine recommendation.

The room and the view more or less made up for these issues, but I really think that if the hotel addressed these staff training issues, this hotel might become the great boutique hotel it clearly aspires to be.

We stayed here as a part of our honeymoon. We had the far right corner room, it had lovely uninterrupted views of the blue mountains. Massive bed!
The food was lovely and can be brought straight to your room!
Or go and sit in the restaurant which also had great views!!
Lovely big fluffy towels (which were brought to our room every morning) and big fluffy bath robes.
There was a seperate room (which I think can be booked) with a large spa and sauna with dimmer lit lights.. very romantic
was a bit expensive.. but had a lovely stay just the same!

We were married at Echoes almost 5 years ago and loved it (even though it was misty and the views were nowhere to be seen). Since then, the interior look has been 'updated' (I actually preferred it as it was, but that's just my personal taste speaking). The food was wonderful and staff were friendly and professional. We were; however, disappointed with the quality of some of the facilities. Our shower leaked, the porta-cot was broken, as was the high chair. At the price you pay per night, this was not acceptable. Overall, we did enjoy our recent stay, but a few simple and mandatory updates would have made our stay fabulous.

This place is all about the location and that is what you are paying for... if like me you have 3 days of cloud surrounding the hotel its not worth it.

Someone has spent serious money on the hotel and let an interior designer go crazy ... its all very black and gold which is ok in the right place but not here... next time you fit out go with something a bit more earthy as opposed to ciy slick.

It is not quite there with the levels of serivce and standard of fixtures. Food served in the restauraunt was exceptional but be warned the menu doesnt change, if you are there for more than one night head in to town.

It was OK which is about as good as it gets...

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Rooms are small (barely fitted the king bed), bed had split in it creating a nasty ridge in it, bathroom was miniscule, shower leaked all night, TV stand almost falling apart, non-LCD TV smaller than my PC screen, bed orientated the wrong way around, no desk etc, etc. See separate comments for dinner in the restaurant tab which was overpriced and poorly prepared.

Legendary views were only redeeming feature but lack of screening means that you need to draw the blinds if wanting to get changed or avoid the stares of those either sitting in the next balcony or in the garden. Lack of privacy was very off putting for romance (as was the amount the noise seemed to travel between rooms).

For the price and rating, not worth it. Breakfast worked out at around $50 for 2 for the continental - nice spread but pastries are frozen sara lee. Hot breaky was around $28 each.

Service was ok but no better or worse than places you pay half the price for. Not up to the standards either mentioned in other reviews or in the chain they are part of. Clearly not rated by AAA etc as rooms are too small to pass.

Location and view are only redeeming features. Stay somewhere else and walk down for the view.

We really enjoyed this intimate hotel in the Blue Mountains after spending 5 days in Sydney. I must say that it was far too brief for us after a hectic tour of Sydney. Echoes has a superb location, very relaxing, quiet and the views were exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentive without being obtrusive (our past experience in a small hotel). The food in the restaurant was also fabulous, in fact, our best meal in Australia. The ambience is wonderfully warm and romantic – lovely menu and open fires throughout. The bedrooms are simple and elegant and all have balconies overlooking views of the Jamison valley. Overall, a little gem..
