“Peace Out!!”

This is a groovy little laid back cafe. Great food. The nicest chicken toastie I've had in a long time. You can sit and watch the hustle and bustle of the main street in Katoomba or read the walls, papers and magazines!! Organic hippy types tend to you with friendly service and a smile.

“Elephant Bean Cafe - great!”
Reviewed October 15, 2011

We had decided to come to Katoomba from our resort and see what the main street offered.
It was mid afternoon and we had eaten late breakfast and now we were looking for a late lunch
cafe and we came across The Elephant Bean Cafe on the main street.
We walked in to this down to earth cafe and sat down on comfy chairs and table, read the menu
and decided on toasted sandwiches and coffee.
Loved the organic, home made bread - i think it was turkish - with ham cheese tomatoes and lettuce leaf salad with a great dresssing - it was brought to the table in good time and obviously had just been freshly made - the kitchen/coffee area is open and all is clean and tidy.
Its comfy basic with a "new-age" / uni student feel and we felt very happy eating and reading the mags and taking our time.
We had come in probably close to the closing time, totally un-intentionally - and we happily greeted and seated.
The coffee was very tasty and all "friendly" in all ways!!
So after we sat down and our order taken, about 3-4 other family/couples came in and sat down too but a couple of them decided they needed more and so left. but the others all were served and looked after.
we were the last patron's to leave (one of the chairs had been placed infront of the entrance so the public could not enter) but were never felt as though we had to hurry out.
Please go in, have a coffee, relax and take in the hardwork these store owners do to give you a lovely experience. Support Local !!!

“Good beans!”

Had breakfast here recently. Nice relaxing jazz, good coffees, and I had some wonderful housemade beans on toast. Friendly staff working in a little gem of a cafe.

“A Secret Worth Sharing”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

During our visit mid-week in August of 2011, we found the town of Katoomba largely abandoned by the reputedly “robust” tourist industry. Of those few restaurants open for dinner, none seemed to be ready for diners any earlier than 7pm. Forget finding a restaurant open for breakfast – or maybe one might just find a jewel? We certainly did. The Elephant Bean Café, open early for coffee and breakfast, was just such a find. Their flat white and tall blacks were brewed to perfection. The breakfast sandwich was super gratifying, with an unconventional savory sauce added. It seemed most locals visited for take-away coffee and pastries, but we stayed for a warm cup or two and breakfast. One of only two coffee shops open at 7am (the other atop Katoomba St and near the train depot), the breakfast menu is small but worth it. The owner/operator of The Elephant Bean was a chill dude, seemingly known by everyone in town, bare-footed and Xanax mellow. His small crew kept up with an endless stream of visitors looking for their morning coffee. His place is the off-beat capitol of finding what to do in Katoomba, from small concerts and performances to where to get intel on climbing, hiking, and other outdoor activities the Blue Mountains are known for.
