Owner description: Explore the Blue Mountains - Your Way! The Blue Mountains Explorer Bus is the ultimate hop on - hop off bus tour of the Blue Mountains. With 31 brilliantly located stops across Katoomba, Leura, and Wentworth Falls we give you the freedom to explore this spectacular World Heritage wilderness on Sydney's doorstep - all at your own pace. The Explorer Bus is more flexible than a day tour, cheaper and less stressful than renting a car, and much more fun than trying to cover all the sights on foot. And you will see so much more because you won't be retracing your steps. Our great-value passes give you unlimited travel all day, making it easy to put together your own perfect day in the Blue Mountains. With buses running every half hour, you'll have plenty of time to hit all the highlights. We'll drop you at the door of star attractions like Scenic World and the famous Scenic Railway, and give you as long as you like to hang out with our beautiful Three Sisters. Want to stretch your legs on a bush walk? Simply hop off the Explorer Bus and we'll meet you at the other end! And with some of the best bush walks anywhere in the world, including Wentworth Falls, you will see the most! If you're coming up by train, we pick you up right outside Katoomba Station - and we don't waste any time taking you straight to the big views. Instead of throwing away 45 minutes of your day walking through town to Echo Point or Scenic World, simply jump on the big red Double Decker bus and we'll get you to the cliff top quicker than you can drink a cup of coffee. While you relax and soak up the unbeatable views from the top deck, our friendly drivers will entertain you with a running commentary of fascinating local facts and stories. And at the end of the day, we'll get you back to the train or your hotel with time and energy to spare. Grab your slice of freedom. Start planning your perfect day in the Blue Mountains now.

I was here for 3 days and made full use of my bus ticket. The drivers, Jimmy especially, are so helpful. As the bus was practically empty, he took a detour to take me to where I wanted to go quicker.

They are full of really useful information and every 'tour' is different.

Thank you :)

The drivers are knowledgable and amusing, but there is no need to spend $38 for a ticket. The MyMulti3 pass which will get you to Katoomba from Syndney is also valid on the local busses, which go everywhere the Explorer bus goes.

Why spend the money?

Hi Randall B,

Thanks for your post, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your day or thought that you would have received the same day if you had of caught the local buses.

While yes it is true that a My Multi ticket can be used on the local buses - it is not true that these local buses go to the same places as the Explorer Bus nor at the same frequency.

The Explorer Bus operates a set circuit mostly each half hour and during Jan in busy times sometimes up to a bus every 12 to 15 minutes to all the stops. The local bus services both Echo Point and Scenic World ever 30 minutes but some other attractions every hour. To get to some attractions you also have to swap and change buses or walk some distance if you want to get to ALL stops on the Explorer Bus circuit.

The local bus does not provide a commentary nor any information where as the Explorer Bus proves both - live commentary from all drivers and a 48 page detailed guidebook as part of your ticket.

So yes while you can get to some of the attractions on the My Multi ticket it is by public transport not a hop on hop off dedicated tourists service, everybody has their own way of travelling and yes this is definitely an option but when people read this please ensure you understand the full differences.

Why spend the money - you get what you pay for.

Enjoy the rest of your travels,

Jason

Very interesting commentary on the bus, very helpful, loads to see and lots to visit, the only down of the visit was that we did not have enough time to visit and see all we wanted in the day. our tip would be to get there early, we arrived 11.00am ish and left at 5.30 but needed more time. very very interesting day.

Hi Susan,

What a great start to the New Year to see a great review on the 1st January 2014. Happy New Year and thanks so much for your feedback and comments, yes and the tip to arrive early gives people the opportunity to spend more time - if people stay overnight we also validate the ticket for the length of stay.

Enjoy the rest of your travels and thanks again for your feedback.

Regards,

Jason

we came to Katoomba for 2 days and bought the explorer bus pass, they gave it to us for the two days same price, the staff were super friendly and helpful, the drivers were full of stories and answered every question, did their best to make the experience personal at was the best way to explore the area if you don't have a car (even if you do have one, it might be easier with the bus since no need to pay for parking and you can walk the trails and end in a different point). we had a great time and I would recommend to use this company too!

This bus follows a set route around Katoomba and Leura. It runs approximately ever 30 minutes from around 9:45am to 5pm and has 29 designated stops. The drivers are the stars of the show as they are very helpful and courteous and provide an interesting commentary. Useful guidebook supplied with various attractions and hikes. I implore you not to miss the Everglades Historic House and Gardens at stop 25 - a delight.
