Our great-value passes give you unlimited travel all day, making it easy to put together your own perfect day in the Blue Mountains. With buses running every half hour, you'll have plenty of time to hit all the highlights. While you relax and soak up the unbeatable views from the top deck, our friendly drivers will entertain you with a running commentary of fascinating local facts and stories. This was our first trip to Sydney and one of the attractions we wanted to see were the Blue Mountains. Since we didn't have a car, we had to rely on another means to get around the Blue Mountains. We were staying in Sydney right next to the Central Station so it was an easy decision to do the combo ticket which included train transportation from Sydney to Katoomba, plus a ticket on the Explorer Bus for about $49 each. My wife and I got the ticket at Central Station on the morning we wanted to do the tour and proceeded to board the train for the 2+hour train ride. We enjoyed the ride because it took us to areas outside the city which we wouldn't have seen.

We got to Katoomba in time to meet the bus at stop #1 for first departure at 9:45am. Dave, the driver greeted us as we boarded the bus and once everyone had boarded, he explained how you can get off and on the bus and what stops we would make. The bus was clean and comfortable. Dave was very friendly and provided interesting information about the area as we drove to each stop. If you're looking for a personally guided tour, this isn't for you. But for us, it was perfect. We don't like to be lead around if we can help it and we like to make our decision about what to do.

We got off at about 6 stops and did some hiking, had lunch in Leura at the Garage, which was very good. We also had Allan as a bus driver and he was excellent as well. We liked having the variety of getting off and on when we wanted and choosing what we wanted to visit rather than having a tour guide decide what to see. Leura was a nice place for lunch and to walk around and visit the shops there.

Finally, we caught the train back at about 3:45 which got us to Sydney about 5:30. This was a great way to see the Blue Mountains at our speed. We would certainly do the Blue Mountain Explorer Bus again! Thanks to Dave and Allan for helping us have a great day!

Great day, second time on explorer bus for me but several years apart. Jimmy and Garth were both excellent and forthcoming drivers and were keen to get everyone doing the best things. Great option to include scenic world and do this early in the morning. We had the best weather and managed to fit walks, scenic world, Devonshire tea, Leura village into our day.

Hi Diane,

Welcome back, thanks for your review and I am glad you had a great day. I trust you would have noticed a very big difference in our buses, we recently purchased newer double deck buses from the UK.

Regards,

Jason

Our driver jimmy warmly greeted and asked everyone where they were from when they boarded tbe bus. He tried to add his touch of humour by speaking in their language if he knew. He was very belpful in advising us and others on planning the stops. The common ground cafe he recommended was definitely worth trying with one of a kind ambience. Food was superb. He provided short and interesting snippets of significant stops.

What touched us most was when we were at a stop and taking the last bus. He felt that it was a pity that we spent too much time there and missed other stops. Heartening to have a stranger to feel and verbalise them too. He even went all the way to wait for a few minutes and call the other bus driver just to make sure a Korean couple had boarded the bus before, and not miss the last bus. He also gave us 5 mins to take photos at echo point.

All these just humanise a world heritage site that is not just about scenic views, but to have someone to lookout for you, is like cherry on top of the ice cream.

It's also evident from his genuine love for his job, the blue mountains and people.

Thank you Jimmy! You made the trip worthwhile.

We used this bus for one day so probably did not get the best value from it, but we found the drivers very helpful and knowledgable. Unfortunately the leaflets are not the easiest to understand regarding walks, distances and lookouts. One of the lookouts we never found despite it being marked at a definite stop, but on the whole it was an enjoyable experience.

Hi Dinkydi,

Thanks so much for your feedback and I am sorry that you found some of the maps / brochrues confusing.

Can you please let me know what stop or what lookout you are refering to so that we can look at this and improve it for the future.

Glad that for the main part you had a good day.

Regards,

Jason

I purchased the ticket for the Explorer bus as I was in the Blue Mountains for 3 days and was able to use the bus every day. The drivers were excellent I was mostly on Jimmy's bus and nothing was too much trouble he was so helpful and suggested a lot of thing I could do in the three days. The commentary was excellent and gave an honest description of all the walks and he even got off the bus to explain which path to take. I would recommend taking this bus if you visit the Blue Mountains
