My wife and I stayed at the Katoomba Falls Tourist Park for four nights with our small rental campervan over 30 December 2013 – 3 January 2014 as we finished a three-week tour of eastern and central NSW to hike in national parks. It is an outstanding facility and we highly recommend it. We reserved our powered ensuite site about six months ahead of time. Without a reservation we would not have had a site due to the popularity of the Blue Mountains area, proximity to Sydney, and the timing of our stay during prime post-Boxing Day holiday travel. In addition to numerous powered sites that use the common washrooms, the park has four ensuite powered sites that are wonderful at AUS$57.00 per night in peak season. Our bathroom was very new, immaculate and clean. Our camping neighbors were a very nice family from the Brisbane area and we enjoyed chatting with them. The park is across the road from several clifftop trails in Blue Mountains NP. One our first full day in Katoomba we walked from our site to the Katoomba Falls area to start on the Prince Henry Cliff Walk towards Echo Point and the Three Sisters. There is a small kiosk/sandwich shop nearby, and bus stops for the hop-on/off tour buses.
Our stay included New Years Eve and we wondered about how much activity there would be. Because of the severe bushfire danger in the region, all fireworks and open fires were completely banned. NYE turned out to be totally quiet at the park, which was fine with us! After sunset we talked down to the trail junction I mentioned earlier since a couple of trails near the road were lighted for a ways. We walked a short ways down a couple of softly lit paved trails and were the only people in that area at the moment.
I can’t say enough good about this park, the great value, outstanding location, cleanliness, and good feelings we had. I highly recommend it but definitely urge advance reservations during the Australia summer as it fills up quickly.
