It's a good workout whether you are climbing down or up. If you are climbing down your knees will feel it, and if you are climbing up your legs ad thighs will burn. This stairway is not for all. It's a long climb and down. A pretty nice thing to do. I enjoyed the view while climbing down.

We did the full loop starting at Echo Point and so descended the stairs. Very steep but railings to hang onto. Quite hard on your legs and they felt like jelly at the bottom but the views were spectacular. A lovely walk along the base, lots of bird noises and good views. Climbed the Furber steps to complete the loop back to Echo Point. Took us just under 3 hours. Our heart rate really got a good workout and even though sore legs next day, it was worth it.
A tip. If driving and you don't want to pay the parking fees, park a short distance away outside the Blue Mountains chocolate company. It isn't far away and there is no parking restrictions. We also recommend stopping there after for a great to chocolate or snack.

I have been visiting the Blue Mountains since childhood, but Mum was afraid of heights, so this was never an option. Recently went with friends, expressly to walk the giant stair case. Take some water, wear your sand shoes, and be prepared for some breath taking scenery, as well as some stairs that will leave you breathless. Not for the unfit or the faint hearted.

Really!! What a trek, and not for the fainthearted or unfit! This was the most wonderful trek but find out what's involved before you set off, make sure you've got enough time, proper footwear, enough water and preferably a small snack. The scenery is just breathtaking, so take your time and take it all in. Only bit I found uncomfortable was a very small section of metal stairs set around a rock but that was a small price to pay for a wonderful afternoon.

One of the best walks you'll ever do! Challenging but rewarding. The views are great but on a cloudy day it's not nearly as good as a sunny spring morning.
