After having a bad experience at another restaurant my partner and i were starving so we went on a hunt for another place to eat and we came across Monte Bello. It was quite busy which was a good sign. We had the bruschetta to start it was lovely and came out very quickly. Our mains took a while to come out after the entree but it the place was very busy by this point, which we didn't mind so much because when we did get them they were gorgeous! I had the salmon fillet it was cooked to perfection and it came with veg and roast potatoes how i like them nice and crispy and my partner had the eye fillet which was huge! It was cooked perfectly and was so tender. The only downside was the place did need some more staff especially being a friday night and Valentines Day, the poor girls were rushed off there feet! Overall the food was the best we had in Katoomba!

Valentines Day was approaching and my husband(of 42years asked me to book at Monte Bello for dinner as we had been there last year and we had been looking for a special occasion to go back.
BOY IT WAS AMAZING!!!We started off with Bruschetta 2 lovely slices of crispy Italian Bread piled high with the best tasting tomato, basil, garlic and oil mixture we'd had since Tuscany 5 years ago.
For entrée we asked the waitress if Thomas(the chef) would replace the gnocchi with the rigatoni and 4 cheese sauce-YES,he said,we were ecstatic as we used to have this particular dish many years ago in Merrylands.IT WAS ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS-all that we hoped for and more.
The chicken breast fillet was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, sauce was to die for, vegetables cooked nicely-no raw veges here.
My husband had the duck risotto which was also very enjoyable.
No room for dessert though which was very disappointing, but we have booked to go back for our daughter in laws birthday in March.
Plenty of staff on tonight which they needed as it was full.
Waitstaff very helpful,experienced and friendly.100/100

This place needs more waitstaff, poor girl was run off her feet. After a long wait, food was ok. My salmon tagliatelle was cooked to perfection, but partners gnocchi was just mush, very disappointing. Pretty good value and a nice atmosphere, except for the upstairs bathrooms which were sketchy as.

First and foremost: Food was great. My gripe was with only one (inexperienced) waitress working. We arrived approx 7.30 and asked if a table for 2 was available. Were told yes, but that it would be at least 20 mins before the waitress could take our order. As we could see at least 2 tables waiting to order (with no drink on their tables) we said we'd go elsewhere for a pre dinner drink and come back in a half an hour. Which we did. It still took ages to get served, and when we did get served, a good few things were "off" the menu (or "warned against" by waitress). Which was dissapointing. But food we did get was lovely. (Especially the Parmesan salad). Wine was not properly chilled, and also no ice bucket. Also white wine list wierd: 1 Sauvignon Blanc(which was sold out), 1 Riesling, 1 Muscadet and about 7 or 8 Chardonnays... If you not fond of Chardonnay it's a very limited list. We wanted the Sauvignon, which was sold out, and ended up getting a Semillion Chardonnay which was not on the wine list at all.It was nice, and reasonable as well, just not chilled enough. The waitress was rushed off her feet all evening, and did the best she could, but the good food (and reasonable prices)were marred by the fact we felt as if we were imposing whenever we asked for anything like water or salt or to charge a mobile phone. At end of evening, when the pressure was off, the waitress went out of her way to accomodate us, even making a pot of plunger coffee when coffee machine was not on/broken (?? Not sure what was problem) I would have been O.K. with instant coffee, but they didn't have any. But waitress made plunger coffee, and only charged us approx $ 2 for the pot. It's a shame there was not a 2nd waitress working, because we enjoyed the food, despite not being able to order our first preferences. Would definately go back again, but would assess staffing level compared to tables occupied first.

We stayed 5 nights in Katoomba over New Year 2013. Had a meal at Monte Bello one night, as it was recommended to us.
I can't say the meal or service was bad, everything was just OK. Service was slow, but they were full, so to be expected.
Food was average, nothing to complain of, but nothing particularly good either.
Waitress was obviously new and/or a casual, as did not know much about the job.
Overall - If you're stuck for somewhere to eat, and just want a simple "in and out meal" it's OK - however there are probably better places to be found if you're looking for a restaurant with really good food and service.
