We paid for 2 nights here through a groupons deal. After 24 hours in the place I had to leave. It was dark uncomfortable and old in a depressing way.
The staff were very friendly and that's the only thing going for the place. I feel we paid way to much for an uncomfortable bed in a tiny outdated room. The owner said he is starting renovations maybe once they are done it might be better.

The 2 star accommodation needs updating and better cleanliness. No room cleaning or towel changes during our 2 day stay. Curtains torn in the room. The dining room menu had 5 items to chose from with 2 finished after our order. Our food was not very well prepared. The main lounge was large with a pool table. However one of 2 overhead lights was permanently out do to electrical fault making it difficukt to read.

This is not a fancy hotel. It's a Plain Jane but it had great character and offers a nice humble experience which left us feeling pretty well done by.
The receptionist was just a delight nd gave us a tour on arrival of the charming and interesting premises filled with treasures from yesteryear. If you like porcelains figurines and the odd tapestry or needlepoint you won't be disappointed.
The room was small, without pretense but clean, neat and very comfortable. A comfortable bed and plenty of pillows and blankets to keep you warm. It was quiet albeit located on Lurline street and er slept with windows open to catch the fresh mountain air.
The shower was sensational hot and strong ... Cracker hair dryer was supplied and all in all this was a really nice place to stay and great value. A very substantial breakfast was provided both hot and cold... We left filled to the brim, rested and smiling.
Don't come here expecting 5 star and you won't be disappointed, it's a good 3.5 does it well and is in a great, location.

We have stayed here 3 times in a family room each time. This time the room was made up but the floor had not been cleaned at all. It was swiftly fixed. The public space with free snooker and endless board games the kids love keeps us happy. The all inclusive breakfast was also a big draw are and helped buffer the higher room price. The breakfast has been down sized as have the number of staff it would appear. This place has charm to spare and it's like a crusty old Venetian hotel, you forgive it because it's old. However the value equation is a little tentative and we will probably stray on that note alone.

We arrived for 2 nights and had pre paid...otherwise we would not have stayed at all! The place needs a good over haul...it's musty and old.The beds were damp...my husband could feel the damp coming out of the mattress when the electric blanket was switched on..[yes, first time I encountered electric bankets in a '4 star' hotel!!! Breakfast was not great. The sausages we were served up were like a piece of rubber piping! Black and burnt. We entered and exited through the back door beside the car park...it was eerie....and I feared my car would still be there in the morning. There were only a few other guests staying the same nights as us...it lacked athmosphere!

Kind of like Fawlty Towers, but run by young people, and with better common areas. Actually, the decor is almost exactly like Fawlty Towers. Picture a room at FT. And now imagine it hasn't been renovated since then: that's Hotel Blue. Breakfast is cooked fresh, if you can locate the charming adolescent who takes your order. Indeed, check in and check out are very friendly, once you have managed to locate a staff member. And hunting them down just makes it that much more exciting. Rooms are amusing and the bathrooms really could use an update. On the first day, housekeeping forgot our room altogether. But we still had a laugh (it was like being at your grandmother's, provided you have an anglo grandmother who is heavily into frilly lamps, shag pile and all things floral). Would stay here again, but only if the price was cheap and I had my sense of humour intact. Enjoyed it. And I wish the staff the best of luck after their current work placements and summer jobs have finished.

Our stay at Hotel Blue was fantastic - I was little hesitant about booking a B&B, but this was just great. We'd been tossing up whether or not to book a motel a bit closer to the Three Sisters, and I'm really glad we didn't - they looked run down, and the area around the Three Sisters looked just crowded and tacky. Hotel Blue was sited perfectly, one block back from the end of the main shopping strip meaning everything was convenient, but the location was quiet. There is a stop for the sightseeing tourist bus out the front of the hotel.

The hotel rooms are a little small, but this is because bathrooms were added to them at some point in the past - and I'd rather have a smaller room with a bathroom than have to walk up the corridor to a shared one. I quite liked the separation between the 'kitchen/living' and the bedroom. We had one half of an interconnecting room, and I can see that this would be a great hotel for families. The electrical problems described by previous reviewers seem to have been addressed, with evidence of new wiring in the rooms. The decor in the rooms is a little dated, but that's kind of the point, isn't it? And as for the bathroom, I'm happy with 70s decor, as long as it works and it's clean.

The lounge downstairs is great - the bar is just an adjunct to the reception area, so it's almost always staffed, and it's reasonably priced. There's a pool table, chess sets, backgammon and other games, and several cosy seating areas, including a couple in front of an open fire. With no TV, there was a convivial atmosphere - enough space to enjoy some privacy, with some conversations developing naturally. This area is a real bonus for families - enough space for the kids to spread out (and with only 26 rooms, there weren't enough kids to detract from the peaceful atmosphere).

The breakfast buffet was great - pots of tea and plunger coffee were welcome additions. The service was friendly and efficient, and there was a large variety of hot dishes, pancakes, fruit salad and cereals.

The pool was a welcome addition - although it doesn't get really hot in the Blue Mountains, it was great to be able to go for a swim after a day of bushwalking. The pool is unheated, but none of the kids around it seemed that bothered. Staff need some notice to get the spa up and running (it takes about 40 mins), and my feedback to them would be that they should consider having a set time that it is operating every day (say 3pm-6pm) and then other times by request - we didn't use it, because it seemed to much of a faff to give them notice.

From reading the other reviews, the owners have only had this place for a couple of years - I wish them the best of luck with it. This hotel was simply the best of our trip to New South Wales - after staying in several anonymous hotels, Hotel Blue managed to be something unique and personalised without being overbearing and intruding on our privacy.

Room Tip: You could ask to see several rooms and pick which one you want - they're all decorated a little...
