“A bit quirky”

We found this by accident but were pleasantly surprised. It is not a fancy place but quite comfortable and within walking distance to stores, restaurants and the RSL is right next door. You can walk to Echo Point from here but it is about 20 minutes or so walk.
It was very reasonable cost and suited us just fine. We stayed one night.

Room Tip: great location

For the price it was pretty good considering we get our own spacious room en suite toilet. Everything was clean, basic with some random stuff at the cupboard for coffee. The water boiler was the only thing that seemed a bit old and rundown (it was stained brown from the inside, considering the entire thing is supposedly white...) Nothing stank or felt dodgy at all.

The bad part for me: I did not enjoy the thin walls where you can hear all your neighbors and, for a couple, all your neighbors can hear you which makes it into quite a restrictive night unless you're selfish.

The staff there were not warm nor rude, pretty much nonchalant with a "whatever" attitude. The small lovely town's need-to-go-to was pretty much walkable from this place. Area is surrounded with strips of eateries and outdoors shops plus some big groceries (ALDI, Dan Murphy's, etc)

Duty Management on 3 Feb was without doubt the rudest 1 have encountered.

And...the bed had a sloping gradient of 10 degrees - the worst I have slept on since boarding school.

Don't stay here. Spend your money somewhere else - where they appreciate your business!

So the negatives first. The rooms are either motel style which lack personality, or early 1900s which have high ceilings, are spacious, but are generally a bit old.

That said the place has a huge amount of character, the main room is live music venue where they have folk, blues, jazz and country.

Once you get into the swing of things the people are great, the breakfasts good and you'll ignore the fact its less well polished than others.
If you want somewhere like a modern Hotel Chain (e.g. Hilton) then you'll hate it, if you want somewhere where you could meet some great characters in the bar hear some cool music yo'ull love it.

Looked at quite a few places on a budget but most of them had a big downer on their location. This had an ok room, nice bed, basic bathroom but very well located at the start of Lurline street, so easy access on foot to main parts of Katoomba Street and all its eating places. Nice comfortable stay and great breakfast which the owner appeared to do each morning single-handedly!

Returning after 68 years, the building itself hadn't changed much! A lick of paint and carpets helps it get to the 3 star standard. Definitely for lovers of older type places when staying in the guesthouse, not the attached motel part. All the staff were super friendly and the breakfast in the dining room was fantastic - especially the dinner-plate-sized stack of 3 pancakes with stewed apple and drowning in maple syrup..mmm.
Next door to the great RSL and it's good, cheap Chinese restaurant. Clarendon has a stage and music nights so check if there'll be an event on when you're there - they can finish late.

Room Tip: Room 15 looks onto the motel brick wall; Room 17 looks out over the pool :)

If you are expecting a five star hotel than you need to pay for it. The location is perfect, two minutes stroll into town, galleries, cafe's, ten minutes stroll from the three sisters, lookouts etc. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The Clarendon is Cosy and comfortable.
Our group decided to try The Clarendon for our Yulefest getaway this year, and we had a lovely stay. The downstairs lounge and bar area can be noisy and busy, but on saying that we went there to enjoy a concert , dinner and accommodation package, so we wanted to let our hair down a little . Dinner and breakfast were delicious
