“Great room and friendly atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

Arrived to find the room had a spa bath! What a win! room was large and clean, could park just outside the door which was great. Tv worked, Bathroom was large. Upstairs had a nice fireplace, large tv, HEAPS of games upstairs to play I noticed. Very cosy friendly area upstairs. Breakfast was a great start to the day, pancakes with bacon and eggs washed down with juice, all included in price. The man at reception/breakfast was very friendly. All up was very pleased with this place and would stay there again.

Three of us stayed here for 2 nights and we had no complaints about this motel. We weren't expecting luxury so were surprised by a room with 2 single beds and a double complete with microwave, bar fridge, toaster, kettle, LCD TV with digital and DVD player and spa bath! The staff were friendly enough and were up for a chat if you were. The place seems to be in some sort of constant state of refurbishment - which is nice, because it means that nothing is allowed to become too outdated. Having said that it did make some parts of the building seem like construction sites but it didn't get in the way of the function of the hotel.

There was ample parking and the rooms were lovely and quiet. Breakfast was provided for us (a choice of hot and cold) both days and it was perfectly acceptable for the price. The building itself is like a sort of maze and we actually found it very novel, if in need of some refurbishment.

Overall, yes we would probably stay here again. We booked last minute and were pleased with what we got. For the price and for peak season, we had no complaints.

Booked the budget family room for 3 nights and was shocked at the quality and size of the room, especially for the price of it!! There was no wardrobe, only 1 clothes rack and a chest of drawers. The timber bunk bed had no safety rail on the top bunk and was soooo wobbly our kids were too scared to sleep on it so they dragged their mattresses off and slept on the floor. The bunk mattresses and pillows were pretty flat and questionable too. When we raised the lack of a safety rail on the bunk to the receptionist, she said "that's just the way that one is!" Aren't motels in Australia regulated by an industry body? Surely a top bunk missing its safety rail is an occupational health & safety issue??!! The hot water was dodgy to say the least ... start with a warm shower, then get a blast of cold water unexpectantly and then 3 degree burns from the hot water kicking in again! We spoke to Marty, the owner, about our concerns, but he spent more time telling us how he does everything around the place himself and how all his other guests think his motel is just great! To his credit, he did offer us an upgrade to a deluxe room ... at a substantially inflated additional charge! We had a look at the deluxe rooms, they weren't much better ... spa bath to fit a child only, long hair left in the drains, tatty old shower curtain from the $2 shop. The deluxe rooms are more like BUDGET and a backpackers hostel would be better quality than Marty's budget rooms and motel overall. We've travelled the world and stayed in some pretty dubious motels in Eastern Europe, but this one takes first prize for the dodgiest and most expensive!! I know it was peak snow season, but $300 a night for the budget rooms?? Tell him he's dreaming! If we didn't have a couple of kids with us, we would have seriously thought about bailing out and sleeping in the car instead! The breakfast was OK, but the hot breakfast wasn't available till at least 7:30am and by that stage, you want to be halfway up the mountain to hit the slopes. When it was ready, it consisted of overcooked poached eggs, half cooked bacon and burnt pancakes. If you are hard up for a place to stay in Jindabyne and this motel has vacancies, do yourself a favour and camp out by the lake or in the gutter instead ... even in -10 degree weather!!!

Room Tip: No rooms at this motel are suitable for human habitation!!

We recently stayed in a budget family for the weekend. At the time of booking we had very few options! It was a case of stay here or not go at all and we were glad we booked and had a great few days on the mountain. We were warned the rooms were budget style and that they were. We had also read TripAdvisor...So, there were no surprises when we arrived. They were tiny but clean and warm, shower was useless...hot water was not so good but honestly we have those problems when staying in Thredbo at five star places. The breakfast was surprisingly good. The location is good. Would I stay again? I would but in deluxe room in the newer part of the complex. The staff I felt were very friendly and helpful. You just have to accept that Jindabyne and Thredbo are expensive. Note, we paid less for our five star 3 bedroom on snow apartment hotel in America skiing last year!

Room Tip: If you are a family pay a bit more and opt for the Deluxe.

The room was not too bad. Reasonably clean. The bed linens were not good. They had some sort of contamination that caused them to stick and become wet. A novel experience!

The staff person complained that he worked too hard and the chef was sick. He barricaded himself in at seven pm.You walk down an uneven flight of steps to the basement then climb up a set of steps to reception. Passing the soon to be barricaded doors on the way. On checkout at 8 am he still had the barricades in place. One time the steps were lighted. It was when the grumpy staff person needed to see to get firewood to keep himself warm.

I used the internet to check email. It barely worked. Dialup would be faster. Cost 5 bucks.

The heat was minimal and the shower lukewarm at best. A tall person would not be able to get under the shower head.

I wish I had found this site before booking this one.

By the way I was the only guest. Everybody else must have known. I had to book something because of business travel.

Room Tip: Read this blog and don't stay at the alpine.

$320 a night for horrible cheap foam mattresses on bunks with slats missing. Would have been more comfortable sleeping in the car. I have never felt so ripped off. Shower didn't work. The double bed was made up of two singles. Do not stay in this ghetto!

We stayed one night at Alpine Resort and were happy considering the price.

The room was very basic in a 1970's-80s kinda way ... but if youre not precious about decor and you just want to crash after a hard day on the slopes its not bad option.

Close to the main town centre if you want to eat out or rent ski gear.
