In Forster, you can be forgiven for thinking that time stood still since 1979. The Jasmine Lodge does not in any way disturb the illusion. This is, however, not such a bad thing. Back in the 1970's you could stay at a reliable motel, with a friendly sole proprietor, close to the beach and town centre, for half a day's wages. At Jasmine Lodge, this is still the case.
The place has not been substantially renovated in decades, the large, comfortable rooms have serviceable beds, bathrooms and kitchen facilities. You can make a cup of tea. There is a tupperware jug of cold tap water and some milk in the fridge, a small swimming pool, off-street parking and proximity to, well, everything.
The location is two blocks from the main beach, one block from the centre of town with the riverside boardwalk, "Red Spot" boat hire and various restaurants and cafes (the Chinese-Malaysian noodle take-away being the best value and most delicious choice).
It's not flashy, not slick, and a bit of a time-warp. But that's Forster, right?
