“Great location but this is NOT 4.5 stars!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 20, 2013

In my opinion was usually separates a 5star from a 4.5 star is 24 hour room service, In this case I would say this hotel is a world away from it's rating and closer to a 3.5 star!
Stayed here on my way back down the coast, Firstly it is expensive $230 for a Monday night?? I can get a better rate at a 5 star hotel and I have!
The explanation by the rude cow on reception was they are the only "hotel" in Forster.. Well, Good on you Dorsal Boutique Hotel because I really hope a great hotel opens and and knocks you down a peg or two!
We bit the bullet and checked in hoping for greatness, sigh!
The air-con didn't work and the safe was locked shut.. Seems that we were checked into an "out of order" room so we had to move.. No floor staff or trolley to help you gather up and move either..
Somehow we went from 5th floor to 3rd which was disappointing to say the least.
The location was perfect, great view and within minutes you are downstairs with your feet in the sand and that's where the good ends..
Ice machine located on level whatever, That's great if there were ice buckets provided, perhaps I'll pop them in my pocket?
Iron and ironing board are on each floor in the emergency fire hose cupboard - not joking! and in my case no ironing board..
The place is grubby, the vent over the shower is full of filth just above your head, No nice amenities for your $230 Monday night special, Instead an almost empty dispenser bottle in the shower full of what can only be described as dishwashing liquid! They do try to make up for it with 2 coin sized bars of soap and 3 shower caps!
We skipped continental breakfast because as we all know that's not really a breakfast at all.
Secure parking? Why bother with a swipe card if you leave the roller door up all night!
The rooms were grubby, didn't bother with the restaurant (the menu was boring)..
This hotel should not be rated 4.5 stars, It needs a total refurbishment and get rid of the bumpkin staff and hire some professionals..

Room Tip: Don't bother!

Excellent location overlooking Forster Beach. We would thoroughly recommend staying at the Dorsal Boutique Hotel. We stayed in room 502, on the top floor. We ate dinner on our first night in the restaurant and couldn't fault the food and the very friendly service.
After dinner it was just so relaxing sitting out on the balcony with a glass on red watching and hearing the waves crash onto the beach. We even left the door open all night which was a wonderful experience hearing the sounds of the ocean as we drifted off into a comfortable sleep.

Room Tip: Top floor room 502

Great location, right opposite beach. Good sized rooms and very comfortable, firm bed. The small balcony was a plus so we could relax and do some crowd watching and I didn't mind the plastic chairs. I was at the beach, after all. The continental breakfast with the room price was nice (given the price of the room -but then, it was peak season).
The staff were friendly and helpful - including assisting me the day after we left as I had lost my glasses somewhere around Forster.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a balcony facing the beach.

Rooms are modern, clean and spacious. Continental breakfast is very basic. The little extras are missing to make this a boutique hotel. Would stay again but make sure to get a front view as side rooms have limited views

Stayed here over the xmas break. After reading the reviews on here we were very sceptical but not much other options were available.
The positives are location, views and rooms are a decent size.
Now for the negatives. Feels very neglected, lots of stains on carpets, marks on wall, mould in showerhead etc. The breakfast was decent but they really need to fix the service up, had to constantly ask for water and milk to be filled up.Bathrooms are a bit squashy, not much parking and the Gym was a total waste of time! (bike, eliptical and a broken treadmill). Just so much that is neglected and needs a good clean.

We were barely in the room which made our stay ok, but the bed was also not that great for sleeping. If they really got their act together this could be a good place to stay, but BOUTIQUE it is NOT!

Good location. The air conditioner didn't work. Old plastic chairs on balcony, which could have been so comfortable. No where to put toiletries in bathroom. Could be very nice as rooms are large. $320 . Not good value

Given that we arrived the day before Christmas without a pre booking, I was surprised there was a vacancy. For $230 a night we got a room for two nights on the top floor (level 5) with a king size bed. The rooms was relatively large; the furnishings modest; the kitchenette small and lacking a microwave; and the bathroom not too small but not overly roomy either. The continental breakfast was not amazing but more than satisfactory. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, offering advice where possible.

Having said all this, the view and location was fantastic. Located across the beach, it was fantastic to go to sleep listening to the waves. All the guest rooms overlook the beach and the rock pool. And the icing on the cake was when my kids and I watched a pod of dolphins for an hour from the comfort of our balcony.

Enjoyed our stay and will go back when we return to Foster.
