My partner and I stayed for 3 nights at this amazing cosy motel! This is our third stay, and if it is even possible, an even more enjoyable trip! We wanted to get away from Sydney, and this motel is so affordable, and great value for money. We booked last minute , 5 hours before arriving, wanting to get away over the long weekend, and Ian was yet again kind enough to let us check in late at about 11pm.
We were allocated room 11, which was a deluxe queen, with undercover parking, and set behind the main units that faced the road, so it was very quiet. The room was pleasantly spacious, and we preferred this room over our previous standard queen. There was a dining table and two seater lounges which added to the cosy factor of the room.
Breakfast was just as we remembered, and ordered it for the 3 mornings that we were there. We love the morning wake-up calls as Ian opens the breakfast door to slide our meals through and calls out “Breakfast!” It is such an effortless way to wake up and have breakfast! We also had dinner on our last night there, I ordered the chicken, and my partner had the lamb. Most amazing home-style cooked food ever! My chicken was cooked to perfection and super succulent! We also indulged in the chocolate pudding and sticky date.
Over our 3 days there, we took our time to get to know the area better (as our previous trips have only been visits to the Japanese gardens, and we have already visited the visitor centre and the peace bell). We had lunch at Breakout Brassiere, highly recommended, a family owned and very friendly restaurant! We spoiled ourselves with an amazing 3 course dinner at The Quarry, superb food, friendly service, and excellent atmosphere with the brick walls and log fire. We went to Darby Falls Observatory after dinner, arriving at 9pm, and the owner gave us a very interesting and informative guide about the stars in the sky. It isn’t really an “observatory”, more like just a shed up a hill, but far away from any light pollution, so as not to obstruct star viewing. When we arrived, there were quite a lot of people there. The perfect cloudless night allowed us to view the amazing stars, and witness multiple shooting stars! We highly recommend this tour as the owner moves the various telescopes and shows us different stars and planets, giving us a very personal experience. The next day we went to the Fun Museum, didn’t really enjoy it, it was interesting, but thought it would be more “fun”. We had lunch at the visitor centre Rose Garden Cafe, quite a busy place but nice food.
We love Alabaster Motel; it is so cosy and makes us feel right at home. It is the perfect rural escape from Sydney’s fast paced and stressful lifestyle!
