Based on various TA reviews, we booked in here for three nights and left after one. That's the major problem with independent reviews, are they bonafide or not?
The pictures on the 'Dive's' web site present a lovely image of what to expect where as in reality, we find it bears no resemblance. I wonder if Austrailian Advertising Standards would be interested in this?
The room was dark, dingy and the bathroom introduced you to new positions on how to sit on a toilet pan!! No joke. The noise from the communal area where guests are able to 'byob' was unbearable but obviously encouraged and whilst we realised no sea view was available, little did I realise " no see view at all at all" but brick wall some 2-3 feet away. The plumbing banged and clattered away when in use.
I know what to expect from a low to mediocre hotel but I'm sorry to admit that the Dive is nothing else than a Bed & Breakfast, and a low rated one at that!
In their favour, they reimbursed our remaining two nights and their free wifi was very much appreciated but I'm sorry to say, never ever again. I seriously question the validity of the comments that have been attributed to this establishment.

We absolutely LOVED it here. The room, the hosts and staff, including 4-legged, and the location were all great! Our favorite restaurants were Ceviche (and yes, the ceviche is good) and Black Pony (all pasta is home-made, yum!). There's a fairly-priced wine shop right next door. What's not to love! The chaise in our room and the balcony were both a perfect spot to just stare out at the ocean or the park for people-watching. We loved Coogee...perfect for couples or families. The breakfast is very nice and is open until Noon I think which is very generous and lets you take your time planning your day or going for a walk on the beach first. Mercedez, Terry, Sandra, David, George, Lucas, and Bob - thank you all for a wonderful stay!!!

Room Tip: The full Ocean View room (ours was Room #1) was definitely worth paying a little extra for...floor t...

If you're looking for a place to stay that's close to the beach, this is definitely a winner.

The staff are really very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. Very cozy and is conveniently located near the beach.

With the hotel pets to welcome you as well, making you feel at home is not a problem.

Highly recommended.

This is not your typical hotel but it is a hidden gem right opposite the beach. Its like staying in someones house, a house with a thousand rooms mind you. Breakfast is communal which is fun and the rooms are decent. I only spent the night and was very comfortable. Its quiet and there is free 3hr on street parking out the front (so I didn't have to move until midday the next day, find that in the city!). The ensuite/bathroom is tiny and requires some maneuverability to fit in but for where it is and the cost (with breakfast), I would certainly be back for a little weekender.

Location is great, directly across from Coogee Beach. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, that are within walking distance. I thought the price per night was fair, considering the area. I also felt it was clean and safe which are two of my primary requirements. There are two friendly and easy going dogs that live here. I am not a dog person, but you can't help but love these guys. There is a wonderful back patio area with a canopy to block the hot sun. We grabbed a couple beers from the store next door and relaxed there after a hike by the beach, while playing fetch the ball with one of the dogs.

Things I was not so fond of:
The bed we slept in was as hard as boards. Not sure that is true about all the beds, but this one in the four posted bed was miserable.
Some one out doors decided to mow lawn at 7:40 AM. This may have been a neighbor, I'm not sure. But nonetheless, this isn't something I like to wake up by when traveling on holiday.

Great hotel on the beach on Arden Street, Coogee. Very comfortable room in a stylish building. Terrific value for money. In walking distance of good restaurants and cafes. We would most definitely visit again.

This is place has a great location, right near beach and Coogee is a beautiful hike to Bondi Beach. Only downside of location is that it isn't near train lines so going to other parts of Sydney requires taking the taxi. But Crowne street has tons of great restaurants and the beachfront location means you could just spend all of your time in the local neighborhood. Great place to stay if you have any reason to do anything at the University of New South Wales.
