This was our second stay at The Coogee Bay Hotel and we enjoyed it as much as the first. Rooms are large and quiet in the District View Boutique section. Bed was excellent, room was clean and staff were helpful and pleasant. A light breakfast is included in the dining area. Breakfast provisions have been pared back a bit since we last stayed, but still quite adequate, cereal, toast, juice, coffee and a piece of fruit. The lovely Coogee beach is a 2 minute walk away, and the Main Street abounds with cafés and restaurants.

Room Tip: Request a room with a balcony if you want one.

My partner and I were guests at the Coogee Bay Hotel for a 3 day holiday. I travel very frequently for work and have never experienced such poor service. The view from our room was absolutely exquisite. The balcony was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the beach from a distance. However, we realized quickly that the balcony was much cooler than the room, as the temperature in the room would not go below 28 degrees. We called the front desk, also mentioning that the bathroom light blinked on and off every time it was turned on. We went out for the day to give them access to the room and were told that the problems had been resolved. This was not the case. We ended up sleeping on top of the bed (as any covers made the heat unbearable) with the balcony door open to bring the temperature down. The bed was actually two small beds pushed together, so we had to be careful not to let things fall through the middle. We called the front desk to ask for additional assistance with the AC on our final evening in Coogee. The same staff member came up to our room and after pounding on the "down" button for nearly 5 minutes, told us that it was broken and that we should have said something sooner. When we reminded him that we had spoken about this before, he insisted that we hadn't (or hadn't been clear enough and must have told "someone else" about "something else"). On two occasions, we asked for directions to places in town (a restaurant and a laundromat) and were met with a disgruntled "I dunno" from two different staff members. Breakfast consisted of bread and (if you were lucky and woke up early) small boxes of cereal and old fruit. When we went to purchase WiFi (which was astronomically expensive and only applied to one device), we were told that they were "out" of the weeklong vouchers. The alternative they offered was paying by the day, which (after only 3 days) was more expensive than the weeklong passes. Upon checkout, we tried to respectfully address our concerns with another staff member (our 4th or 5th), but were told that there was nothing they could've done anyways. Needless to say, the customer service was absolutely disgraceful. The only thing we paid for was the view, which we would have traded in a heartbeat for halfway decent service.

I have stayed at Coogee Bay Hotel numerous times.

The Good:
-location
-room is clean and modern

The Bad:
-very noisy however expected as it is a hotel
-a tad expensive but I guess it's the Coogee accommodation market.

I had an ocean view room and did not have the noise problem others have reported (3rd floor room). I was there on a Sat night when there was quite a crowd at the bar and still slept peacefully.
The place was very clean and room was large, good A/C. Staff is not the friendliest I've seen in Australia but OK. I was here for a meeting at the hotel so it was very convenient but if I were a beach goer, the small sandy area out in front gets way too crowded for my taste.

Room Tip: Above 3rd floor
