“One of those rare places that lives up to the hype ...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2012

We stayed in the Boutique accommodation wing for four nights. The rooms are well maintained with good facilities, and the staff are pleasant, courteous and efficient - the reception staff are exceptional in this regard, and the cleaning staff cannot be faulted - a rare event, in my opinion. A non-functioning toaster was replaced immediately, and I can't find anything negative to say about the place. Close to all facilities and transport, I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

I would definalty recommend staying at the Coggee bay Hotel Boutique. The rooms are very nice and modern and extremely clean, the view was fantastic. The room had a really nice feel about it, it was warm and inviting. The staff were very helpful. We ate at the Coggee Bay Hotel Brasserie, the food was very nice and well priced. All our needs were met and we would definalty stay again.

Room Tip: Higher floors are very quiet and you get a great view, I would recommend getting a room with a balon...

Our extended family spent four nights in three rooms of the boutique wing of this beachside hotel in wonderful Coogee, a southern coastal suburb of Sydney. We were there to be close to our niece, who lives in Coogee, but it is an excellent place to stay, with easy bus access into Sydney city center. We were very satisfied with the Coogee Bay Hotel, but it is important to realize that there are two different types of accommodation available. There is budget accommodation in the main building located directly above the huge bar complex also housed in the hotel, just across the street from the wonderful beach. It is not for those desiring a good night sleep. The boutique wing is in a separate building in back of the main complex and it is a quiet, modern, relatively small hotel. In making reservations, make sure you ask for the boutique hotel. The rooms were spotless, modern, well-appointed with very comfortable beds. The one caution is that the internet connection, which is free, is wired, meaning that only one person can access it at a time. This created problems for my two sons, both of whom had laptops and shared a room. Free WiFi is available in the lobby and in one of the bar areas. The hotel also offers a free continental breakfast in the main complex. Parking is also available underneath the building. All in all we were very happy with our choice, which is cheaper although not as luxurious, as its main competitor, the Crowne Plaza Coogee Bay, just down the street.

Good Afternoon jmgradon,

We appreciate you taking the time and effort in writing a review. We agree the pub style rooms are geared towards the more budget conscious traveller and our Boutique rooms are a wonderful option for guests wanting more deluxe and modern accommodation. Your thoughts regarding the internet access in the rooms for one person only have been passed onto management, though as you suggested we do try to alleviate this by having free wifi in our lobby and brasserie areas.
Thank you again for your positive feedback which has been passed on to our team. We do hope to welcome you back to the Coogee Bay Hotel in the future.

Great location near beach and restaurants. Friendly helpful staff. Couldn't fault it. Even though we arrived early morning and check in was set for 2pm, we were given a room straight away. Rooms were comfortable, modern, and spacious. Better than many inner city hotels we have used. We will certainly stay there again.

We were only at the pub one night so opted for the cheapest room, I felt we had been well warned that there may be some noise from the bar - which wasn't too bad on Sunday night. What we didn't expect was the 5am garbo run emptying the empty bottles from the previous night into the skip which led to rather a rude awakening. The website also warned that there was stair access only so I was forwarned.
The room was spacious enough and clean , the beds although very narrow were comfortable. The TV was a fascinating shade of pink and yellow which no amount of adjusting could alter - but not really an issue for an overnight stay.
The bathroom however was in need of some serious renovation, with the enamel on the sink severly chipped and cracked and the tiles very discoloured, but the water was hot and the towels were good quality. If the pub invested in some renos it would have been a great room, noise and stairs and all.
The food was very average for the prices paid - very poor quality steak and the vegetables were cold on delivery.
The staff overall were friendly and helpful and check in and out was effortless.
The workshop area in the conference room upstairs was brilliant, fabulous room, natural light and air flow and an amazing view.
I will stay here again but would spend the extra for the boutique room next time.

Room Tip: If I was staying more than one night I would pay the extra for a boutique room. The stairs to the pu...

Our pub style rooms are definately for the budget minded traveller and we are currently in the process of updating the carpet and furniture in this section!

I have traveled a lot and this was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at in my life. What the pictures on the website don't indicate are the rooms in the "heritage" part of the hotel. "Heritage" must be short-hand for dilapidated and poorly maintained. The way one reaches the "heritage" section from the parking garage is through an alley way, past the drive-by liquor store and through the bar and restaurant area. Then you have to haul your baggage to the second floor because there is no elevator and no reception person in this building which is separate from the check-in reception area in another building. I thought we were staying in a boutique hotel (which the newer part may be), but our room is like something from the 1930s. with dirty carpeting, peeling walls, and a dirty, poorly lighted bathroom. There was actually a sand pile along the wall of the bathroom. The TV was from the 60's and there was NO internet. In addition, our "heritage" room faced a main street and the noise went on all night, including the garbage trucks at 4:00 A.M. I felt like I had to keep my shoes on because who knows what was on the carpet and in the shower. I had asked for a double room and got three single beds. It is like the management of this hotel is doing a "bait and switch" on customers. They should be ashamed of their policies. Post the pictures of the "heritage" rooms if you are comfortable with your management of the hotel.

Hello Janice M
Thank you for your review. We appreciate all feed back from our guests and would like to address some of your concerns. When booking online you have two styles to choose from - our Boutique rooms & our Pub style rooms. Our Boutique rooms are 4 star and situated in a seperate building to the main hotel, these rooms offer modern facilities & furnishings with gorgeous marble bathrooms. Obviously the Boutique rooms are of higher quality and the rates offered reflect this. The Boutique Hotel is also were all guests check in. We also offer budget rooms in our Pub style acommodation (Heritage) which are situated above our licensed premises as indicated on all websites including our own. We acknowledge that these rooms are older and a little tired but they seem to be perfect for guests wanting a budget room with own bathroom. The rates offered for this part of the hotel are reflective of the style of room and we always advise guests when booking on line or over the phone that these rooms are "subject to hotel & street noise and have stair access only". The photos online also reflect the exact style of this room. We in no way try to "bait and Switch" our guests. We want all of our guests to enjoy the experience of The Coogee Bay Hotel and all it has to offer. The choice of of room type booked is entirely up to the guest. We are disapointed when our guests don't enjoy their stay & would love you to contact the hotel direct.
Kind regards
Denise
