Westayed here for this (2012) Kurri Kurri Nostalgia festival & where rather impressed despite not having high hopes. After being in the car for hours, the friendly staff & spa were great. The suprising clenliness and higher than 'ya usual big four' standard of accomadations will see my partner & I back here soon. Would make a great base for exploring the region.

We stayed in a Merlot Cabin which looked tired from the outside, but had been renovated inside, was clean and quite comfortable for two adults on a two night stay. There was very little storage, and although the cabin is set up for four guests, it would have been very crowded under those circumstances. The bathroom in particular is very small. We chose to stay in a cabin rather than hotel/motel because we like to do our own cooking, but were disappointed by the lack of cooking utensils - especially when similar cabins elsewhere on our trip had been very well equipped for self-catering. The Park is located away from the city centre, so walking to shops and restaurants is not possible.

We always stay here when there are concerts in the vineyards, the campsite is good, has a nice pool area for hoy summer days and an excellent Thai restuarant for dinner after the drive up (booking advised). The concert bus picks up from the gate and drops back of afterwards so no issues with drinking and driving. Management are in process of upgrading some of the areas so should be even better next year.

I booked a couple of Mountain View cabins for an overnight stay after watching the Christmas Lights at the Hunter Valley Gardens.
Located in Cessnock rather than being in the winery area itself, meant that we were only a minute drive from the supermarkets and other essential services.
It was also only a 20 minute drive to the gardens and other popular wineries.
I did notice there was some newer Mount View cabins near us. The one we stayed in was a bit old but they refurbished the toilet and we had a new sofa bed.
The cabin was very clean when we arrived and the air con worked sufficiently well during a 35C day! (although the air con was very loud).
Kitchen was well equipped with a full sized fridge and gas stove top. Just outside are some BBQs as well.
Although a bit smaller than the other cabins, the Mount View was sufficient for 2 adults and 2 children under 5. If you have teenagers for example, I may opt for the larger cabins.
I did ask around many places during the first week of January - and since it was peak period, prices were expensive everywhere in the Hunter - but this caravan got my pick because it ended up being the best value.
They also have a jumping pillow - no shade however, and the pool was ok although the amenities were quite dirty when we were there.

Overall, a great stop over and although not as glamorous as the other winery accommodation in the area, this may fit well for those with young children.

Room Tip: If going for the Mount view, ask if you can get the newer ones.

As this caravan park is in Cessnock it is very close to the wineries. It was a great alternative for us as we would much rather spend our dollars on wine than on an expensive place to stay. Being near the wineries there are no reasonably priced options, only expensive ones for accomodation. The park is a little old but the surrounds are lovely with vines just over the fence. I would personally think it was too far to walk to the CBD and shops. It has a very nice looking Thai restauraunt attached however it was very popular and as we didn't have a booking we could not get in.
We had an ensuite powered site. The ensuites are a little old but are spacious and do the job. We did have a small issue with the ensuite however the effort made to rectify the issue was fantastic and they offered a free bottle of merlot. I was very happy with their service.

Room Tip: Book the restaurant early to ensure a table at the time you want.

We stayed here to meet my brother as we live about 15 hours away, we decided to meet halfway and what better place than the Hunter Valley! We needed a 2 bedroom accommodation for a budget price. What really surprised me is how expensive this was compared to our stays on real beachfront property in Rainbow Bay QLD! For 3 adults and 2 children we were charged about $220 per night ($135 in QLD) so once we actually got there I thought it was a bit steep for what we got. The self-contained cabin was not too bad. Did need some TLC but at least there was heating/cooling, comfy beds and decent linen. Unfortunately we were right opposite the dam which is lovely, but we had a toddler so couldn't sit on verandah without jumping up every 2 seconds! I found that we had only one very large saucepan in the unit and I asked an older reception staff if we can have more pots. The response was that "we really don't do that sort of thing and supply things like that". I responded "well I wont bother telling you other requirements then". She must of seen the surprise on my face as she later chased me down with a pot, which probably was left behind by someone. The grounds are okay but I have seen better parks. The young Staff were lovely.

We visited during the off season in Winter - the park grounds were a little bit shabby (they had recently had some bad weather and were clearing the damage). The pool didn't look to enticing either, but then again it was June!

No free wifi which was a bit of an annoyance - this seems to be a common problem with Big4 parks.

Good value and with well kept facilities (good hot showers). We would certainly visit again if we were visiting wine country in a camper again.

A warning to anyone who is visiting for the first time - bare in mind that the Hunter Valley region is too big to walk between places. Either sort out bikes or get yourself on a tour bus so that you can enjoy the many wine cellars to their fullest. We highly recommend the Tyrrells Vineyard for a really good tour around a family owned business.

Room Tip: Remember THL Rentals get 10% off this Big4 site!
