room is a basic container - bare and ugly. not somewhere you want to remember staying... dirty tissue underneath the table say it all...

the restaurant offers a much better service than the food: fish of the day means defrost on the day, rather pricey lamb came frozen in the middle and the solution of the 'kind service' was to stick the meat into microwave and re-serve... $30 for that? cheers - might camp next time...

would i stay or recommend: sure, to people that I really hate...

Room Tip: drive another 50km?

Thanks for you review Bazancik from Glasgow.

Its safe to say that this property cannot be all things to all people, as well as this historic town or the rugged West Coast of Tasmania, but I hope the volume of positive reviews about my property express the desire of myself and my staff to get it right every time. So on the tissue .... I have already workshopped this with my housekeeping staff this morning, and I apologise for the oversight.

Just in response to a couple of points you raise on the restaurant. As I personally served your table on Sunday night I ( good service - thank you :) ) I need to respond to a couple of comments.
None of our meat is frozen, and never will be. The rumps are individually vacuum packed in the coolroom until cooked...and is currently the 2nd most popular dish on our menu. You asked for yours to be re-warmed, which it was.
Our fish also is not frozen, but fresh caught Tasmanian catch. Your table enjoyed two portions of fish, both were different, one cod, one salmon demonstrating that move from one type of fresh fish to the next...and not having bulk frozen stock on hand.

And I don't think I'll touch on the rest of your comments

The reception was efficient and friendly and the room had everything we needed, even though dated in appearance. Wonderful hot shower, warm and comfortable bed with electric blanket and good meal at the on site restaurant. Helpful tips from gentleman at reception to ensure we made it to Strahan in time for our river cruise. Would recommend and stay again.

Thanks Quest4Experience for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the restaurant and room in this iconic Motel, and using Queenstown as the ideal base to explore this wilderness destination. Wild rivers, old mines, breathtaking scenery, stunning cruises...and these are all the 'usual ' tourism must-see's. But talk to us when your here...there is a lot more to the West Coast and many more stunning areas to visit if you have the time.

Free wifi! We arrived in the rain and there was undercover parking though not all rooms had this option. We were in Room 21 which had been refreshened up. The helpful service meant a lot to me - the owner offered to take our bags to the room, gave us heaps of tips regarding the drive ahead. For what this is - a motel - it is very good.

Our visit was brief but long enough to enjoy comfortable, clean and obviously refurbished accommodation. We dined in the restaurant and found the service, quality and quantity of food to be above average. We will most certainly recommend to friends and colleagues.
