We stayed in a Deluxe Queen room. The rooms have beautiful views of the surrounding Queenstown Mountain Range. Room was very clean with new bed and conveniences; it had everything we needed for a very pleasant 2 night stay. James, the manager, and all staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Silver Hills Motel also includes Smelters Restaurant, which has a comprehensive menu and some of the best food you'll ever eat!!
We look forward to our next stay at this Motel.

Room Tip: All rooms have or are being upgraded, all have magic views. We Highly Recommend Silver Hills Motel...

We arrived earlier and To our pleasant surprise our deluxe rooms #55 and 56 were ready as they knew we were heading to the footy!

Rooms are basic, but clean and more then do the job! The new paint outside would suit inside if they could achieve it!

Small LCD tv, fridge, double not queen bed but it was very comfortable (especially after a few red wines!)

Only real criticism is factors out of their control, the queenstown football club had a late party which echo's over the hotel, it kepty wife and inlaws awake however I slept fine... There was also people moving late and given the mining town people coming and going at all hours...

All in all, not 3 stars, more 3.75... Clean adequate and warm. It's an old queenstown building so enjoy it, it makes you appreciate the area

A large open plan Restaurant with bar area and a cosy open fire for the colder nights !!

Our small group had dinner in "Smelters Restaurant" and enjoyed every mouthful ! Menu is quite diverse with some very tasty and 'hot' (Curry & Chilli) type meals. Portion size quite large and usual value between about $25 - $30 for a main course. Tender Steaks were done as we requested (Medium). Entrees were very tasty and some lovely desserts.

Manager/Owner James was a terrific host often nearby to ensure all was OK and the meals were to our liking. Very happy with our dining experience - averaged our bill at $42 per person which included a bottle of wine and several drinks.

We booked via Wotif. When we arrived the reception was closed and there was no one in sight. The phone on the wall to use when the reception was unattended did not work. We used our mobile and phoned, to find the owner (manager?) had no record of our booking and was apparently out of town. He told us to use one of the rooms that had a key left in the door. It was tiny, and not what we had booked in terms of bedding. There was no soap, and in general the room was very old, tired and run down. I had chosen this motel partly because of the hype about its restaurant. It was closed. Most disappointing. I can only assume that the rooms that have been done up are at the front of the complex. Perhaps we were supposed to have one of those, in which case we were short-changed, even if it was a wotif booking.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the renovated rooms!

Firstly thanks foodiept for your review. I'm sorry that Silver Hills didnt meet your expectations on the night that you stayed...your arrival was for a Sunday night, and it was my error that I had loaded your booking in for the following Sunday, as such your correct in saying that I wasnt expecting you. While I was in town ( and not at the motel when you arrived ) - not out of town...I was able to offer you a superior room to the one you had booked ( it had a key in the door for a different arrival )...and accommodate you immediately rather than you needing to wait while I returned to the Motel. As such this was a free upgrade, and only small compensation for not being able to welcome you personally. All my rooms are smaller - being an older, and historic property, thats how they come...but are warm, comfortable, clean with new beds, TV's etc etc.and I am very confident they are some of the best in Queenstown. I'm sorry that the restaurant was closed on that Sunday night, though it often is due to lower occupancies and higher wages on Sundays and Public Holidays. Smelters restaurant is very popular with the locals and visitors to Queenstown, and usually trades at least 6 nights a week.

We have stayed in the Silverhills a number of times and also dined in the restaurant. Since being taken over in 2011, the transformation to the hotel has been brilliant. The rooms have been updated. The restaurant serves delicious food with excellent and attentive service.

We had our baby sons first birthday party at the Silverhills. We had such a wonderful night and everyone who came would agree, you never leave disappointed.

We would recommend the Silverhills time and time again

My wife and i stayed at Silver Hills motel for one night in May 2012 and found it to be a brilliant stay.
When we arrived the reception was friendly and helpful and the deluxe queen room with views to the hills more than sufficient.
Room was very clean and tidy with all that is required for a very comfortable stay.
That night we went to the restaurant for a meal and found the food selection and price very good..
Again we found the staff very friendly and helpfull.
Not the most lavish motel in Tasmania but for the price it is one we certainly would recommend as worth staying at.

Dear Trevorb2506,

firstly many thanks for staying, and of course thank you for the very positive review. Your right in saying that we are not the most lavish motel in Tasmania, but we do hope to be one day ( ! ) ... so long as we can still maintain a very reasonable tarriff for everyone.

While we have great food, great views and our rooms are coming up well...its important now that people should view our accommodation ( and central location on the West Coast ) as a much more viable base ( than Strahan ) for exploring this fantastic wilderness area...wether its purely from a price point, or for the extensive range of services, restaurants and touring available from Queenstown.

Hope to welcome you back one day !

Silver Hills offers attentive and friendly service as well as comfortable rooms and a good location. James makes everyone welcome and personally attends to special requests with a great deal of goodwill. I very much enjoyed staying at Silver Hills recently. I have no doubt that it will very soon be recognised as the best place to stay in Queenstown.
