“Great apartment and lovely views”
Reviewed August 27, 2011

Our 2br apartment was top-class - fantastic spacious rooms and all ready for entertaining. It includes everything one might need from a practical sense, but also looks luxurious and makes your holiday a bit more up-class :)
You'll need to walk 20 min to the restaurants area and you'll also need about 15 min to walk to the nearest supermarket, so be aware of the distances, although the lovely boardwalk by the ocean makes it worth it.

The rates are high (perhaps a bit too high) but the great state of the apartment justified it.
Service from reception wasn't superb from a property of this level, but it was still helpful enough. Some of the apartments seem to be occupied by permanent guests and we were woken up by this lady insisting on sweeping the floors at 7am.

Room Tip: Get an ocean view apartment if you can - we didn't and certainly regretted it.

Given how positive other reviewers have been, I expect that your experience here may depend on the individual unit. We rented a 3-bedroom unit, with one en-suite bathroom, and additional shower room and toilet.
The good:
The unit was reasonably well appointed, with mid-high level fixtures and fittings
The location, while a bit of a hike from town (about a 25-minute walk), is peaceful and pleasant
The swimming pool is a good size and water and surrounding areas are clean
The not so good:
Our unit was not clean. As soon as our (clean) bare feet touched the tiled floors or carpets, they were dirty; while easy-to-see surfaces were clean, anything hidden (table legs, shelves) was dusty and greasy; the staff responded promptly to our request to clean the unit, but only did a so-so job
The showers did not drain well, causing flooding of the bathroom floors after a shower any longer than 2 minutes
For an upper-end property, the quantity and quality of silverware, plates and cups provided was poor
Towels and sheets were thin and scratchy, and bed covers were stained
The pool was not heated (though this may be the norm for this area), and was too cold for anything other than a really quick dip
The marina view, while nice, is partially obscured by a similar property on the other side of the street
In defence of the management, we understand that they took over the property only recently, and are trying to fix some of the issues.
All-in-all, not a horrible experience, but certainly not up to par for the price.

Just returned from a blissfully relaxing holiday, staying at Marina Shores Resort, Whisper Bay.

Stayed 8 nights in a two bedroom, two level, water view Penthouse. The apartment was very modern, clean and spacious, and the views from our TWO huge balconies were amazing. What you see on the website is what you get!

Staff very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for Marie. Upon our arrival, everything was handled with the utmost efficiency and we were also able to take advantage of the resort's rental car to drive into Cannonvale and do our supermarket shopping. How convenient!

Located 15 minutes walk from Airlie town centre in Whisper Bay, and right on the water, Marina Shores is a little piece of heaven. Exceptionally quiet - the name Whisper Bay says it all. And the walk into Airlie is a delight in itself due to the gorgeous, scenic boardwalk.

Marina Shores really does have the wow factor. Fantastic place, will be back!

Room Tip: Best views are the water view apartments, and if the budget allows, get a Penthouse.

Rented a 2 bedroom apartment which is spacious and big enough for a family of 4. This is a self service apartment so no servicing of rooms, toilets, bedrooms or exchange of towels. You will need to keep your own apartment clean and wash towels etc as required. We stayed 6 days and would be nice to have someone do a midweek clean but it wasn't a big deal.

Place very clean and child friendly. We had friendly reception and good advise given to us by Marie which made the stay quiet good. The apartment has its own balcony with an electric BBQ which we utilised frequently with table and chairs. With a young family, the kitchen and amenties were more than adequate to cook and entertain the kids. Loved the view from the balcony and also TV channels were excellent to keep you entertained at night (young family = early nights).

Pool area is big but water a bit cold in the winter months and you lose the direct sun around 4pm-ish due to the building blocking the sun. You can still get a tan and direct sun pretty much during the day. Deck chairs and area were very clean too.

The hotel is located close to the shore and is halfway between Whitsunday Shopping Centre and Airlie Beach (about 1.5km or 10-15 mins walk either side). Not a major issue if you have a car or willing to walk - our 5YO can walk easilier with some treats. The walk around the bay is worth it and we did it a few times walking to Airlie Beach. You can also rent their vehicle for a night out.

WSC good for grocery shopping(close about 5.30pm) with a number of other retailers and there is another shopping centre which is further away. Airlie Beach is the main activity centre for this area and this is wher most of the bars, restaurants/cafe and tourist shops etc are based. There are also a number of apartments higher up in the hills at Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach as a base will likely suit the young and night live seekers as it is closer to the action. However, in saying this, bus trips are frequent and only about 7 minutes walk to a bus stop - cost is about AUD$2.70. You can of course catch a taxi which is about AUD $8-10.

Don't let the location be an issue. If you go on tours, they all do hotel pick ups. We paid to ensure we get a top quality apartment and it did not disappoint us.

Room Tip: They offer 1 night free stay if you pay for 6 days. This was not advertised on hotel sites...go to t...

If you are looking for a great location, unequalled view, quality accomodation, and oustanding service, look no further.

My wife and I are pretty spoilt and enjoy top quality accommodation wherever we go, and Marina shores does not disappoint.

Wow, just got back from Marina Shores and cannot rate it highly enough. The team who worked there were very helpful. It's not falsely advertised and really is as good as it looks. We went for a much needed rest staying four nights, wish now it was more and R and R is what we got. The Marina Shores is out of town but a delightful walk (stroll) along the boardwalks will get you into the Airlies where its all going on. A walk in the other direction for 15 minutes gets you to Cannonvale where there is a supermarket, look out for turtles along route. If you don't want to walk back from the supermarket then it's approx $8 in a taxi that are readily available as you leave Coles.
We stayed in a two bedroomed apartment as I didn't want to stay on ground level and it was worth the little extra the views of the islands were incredible, we stayed in room 243.
The apartment was fantastic, two bathrooms, two bedroomed very modern, comfortable and clean. This is a five star resort and deserves every star.
The staff were brilliant and very helpful with all advise. We will definately be back.

Room Tip: Pay extra and ask for Ocean View one bedroomed apts on ground level, I would pay a little extra and...

Although we only stayed for one night, but the place was lovely. The rooms were big and it had everything we needed. The room had a washing machine and dryer, it would be convenient for travelers who has been on the road for a long time to do laundry during their stay here. The kitchen had everything required and there was even a BBQ pit. The staff was very friendly and informative too! If in any doubts you could ask them for help and they would also help you book any tours for you!

The location is about 15 mins walk to the town center. I would stay there again if I've the chance to go to Airlie Beach again!
