Azure Sea Whitsunday

We started off badly being given a room that a smoker had used, but the management changed our room the very next morning with out fuss, we then had 10 days of a very good holiday, we had a family wedding on the beach and then spent the remainder of our time looking around

Anyone reading my Novotel Cairns Oasis Hotel review might well think we would have nothing further to do with the Accor group. But I have been an Accor customer for many years and the Oasis was the exception so far.

The Grand Mecure Azure Sea could not have been more different in the best possible way.

We were late checking in and everything looked closed but a brief buzz on the intercom a a real "Ozzie voice" responded "I'll be right there, and within a minute ir two he was".

Our pre-paid voucher was checked out, and verified.within minutes, several more were taken to tell us about Airley Beach, and how there was a lot to do on shore as well as just taking off to the numerous islands. We were made to feel welcome and a small explanation made about deposits and the like. Stories then ensued about riotous elderly couples, when realising what he said, he then exempted us from any such grouping... All lots of fun and again a real Queensland welcome with smiles and a "can't do enough for you" attitude. Well done The Grand Mecure Azure Sea.

We were taken down in one lift across the basement garage and up into another lift to our rooms. I admit to feeling some trepidation about what would we see when we came to opening the door. Surely not another Oasis!!!! But no. I should have already realised by the cleanliness of the small reception area, the lifts and even the garage that this was a well maintained and managed property.

The door to our room opened and even though it was getting on dark, it was very obvious that everything was spot on. the room was effectively a large one bedroomed apartment. despite being on the 'Ground floor" it had across the roof tops good views of the Coral Sea.

The facilties within the room were all sparkling clean and extensive, lots of decent towels, nice seperate shower, a bath with slatted wooden windows into the bedoom and views out to the sea. A large kitchen area, laundry (dryer washer) facilities, balcony although not totally over the pool but adjoining it.

We were happy. We were given a run down on how things worked. where to go for dinner and other helpful tips then the manager said goodnight and that was the last we saw of him or needed to see him.

A nice shower and chnge of clothes and we headed off out for a meal.

The rest of our stay was uneventful. It was peaceful, relaxing and just great. We had a great evening meal (more on that in another review later) got a taxi back from town, very reasonable price and went to bed. Very, very comfortable with a huge matteress NOT the putting of two beds together with that awful feeling that one is going to slip down between the mattresses that we had at the Novatel Oasis.

The next day we walked into town after having a nice brewed coffee (provided) and made arrangements to hire a car (More about that later in another review) we enquired about car parking and NO PROBLEMS use you room key to get into the basement.

There really isn't anything else to say. The place is just great. The pool and other facilities, rooms etc were all just great. I woukld recommend it to anyone.

Check out was done efficiently, I incorrectly said one of the photos of the pool might be misleading and the other Manager (there are two) advised me I was thinking of another establishment. He was quite right. I should have known this place sold itself on what it was, not by dodgey photos. Great Job The Azre Sea. .

We were once again walked through

Room Tip: Obviously the more expensive and higher level floors have better views but all in all a great place.

Stayed for a week at Azure Sea while working in Airlie and this place surpassed expectations. The apartment was spacious, well-equipped and offered fantastic views over the bay to the islands. The hotel is situated about a 10 minute walk (last 100m a bit steep) behind the main street and therefore is quiet but close enough to shops including the new Woolworths. There is secure undercover parking if you have a car and the facilities include a very attractive pool and deck area. After staying in other apartments in Airlie over the last five or so years I can happily recommend a stay at this property.

Stayed here for 5 nights with family, booked a 2 bedroom unit and was upgraded to 3 bedroom upon check-in which was a nice surprise considering we were staying here on accor points so was not expecting!

The staff are fantastic, Ben was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble.

My only negative is the lack of quality kitchen utensils and the lack of no WIFI and limited Pay TV channels, but then again I was on holiday and didn't care too much for TV or cooking my own meals.

Great place for families as set back on the hills over looking Airlie and the Pool is great for kids.
