A family of 8 of us went on the morning fishing trip with one solo 80yr old lady.
From the moment we went on board it was uncomfortable and unenjoyable. Our crew didn’t even introduce themselves and were smoking from the time we got on. We had my 13 yr sister on board. We only knew the skipper’s name was Brendan because the deck hand was saying his name. Once we got to the first spot Brendan was giving the brief and I can clarify like in previous reviews that the men were told to piss off the front of the boat because it was only a small caravan toilet. After that the next was the problem about the sinkers. I understand they are dangerous but we didn’t need to get yelled at like high school children getting threatned that if we didn’t put the sinker in the right spot our rod was going to be taken off us and not be able to fish for the rest of the time. Especially the 80 yr old lady that clearly couldn’t understand the crew and was yelled at every time she pulled a fish up, to the point where my sister cousin and myself felt bad and would run over and try help her so the crew wouldn’t see and yell at the poor lady again. (If this was my grandmother I would be very disappointed in someone speaking to her this way) This was Due to lack of communication when we were getting on the boat, it made it harder to understand what he wanted us to do because he didn’t explain what everything was before we started properly. He gave us maybe a 5 min brief max. If the brief was more thorough maybe things would have gone smoother.
The next problem was the March flies, I know this is out of their control but maybe some warning or preventatives should be in place even if you tell the customers they need to bring along something for it. For example the reef trips provide stinger suits. This made it for a very uncomfortable time as we were getting stung left right and centre especially at the first location. My mum who loves fishing got about 10 minutes of fishing before the March flies got to much and she ended up sitting theyre the rest of the trip swatting March flies with a pool noodle. The next problem was the way we got spoken to every time someone hooked a fish, my dad for example was pulling one in the boat and yes it was a little uncontrollable but Brendan went on saying that was a really dangerous way to bring a fish in don’t do it again. When 5 mins later he was casting out and hooked my dad in the side of the shirt. When Brendan caught a stingray he asked dad to grab the gaff which he did, he didn’t want to kill the ray so as Brendan pulled it up asked where he should hook it, Before he got a chance the ray had taken off so he started yelling at dad saying “good job” “why didn’t you get it” “that was hard work you know” and then yelling at the deck hand saying get the gaff, get the gaff off him and hook it when it comes up. Most of our group were even too scared to pick up a rod at this stage that they would get yelled at about something.
Brendan may be a good fisherman but deffinely doesn’t have the skills to skipper an enjoyable experience. We payed a lot of money to go on this trip and didn’t not enjoy it one bit. I’d also like to add that the deck hand was much more pleasant with us, making conversation and being kind whilst doing her job.
After all of this we were all pretty eager to just come back to the main land where we get treated like humans.
Would not recommend this trip at all. No customer service skills what so ever!
