this yha is in a good location for most things in airlie. rooms are very basic but you get what you pay for. staff were helpful and room was clean. i agree the value for money could be better, but would probably stay again

Its in a good location, has a open spacious layout and friendly helpful staff. The swimming pool is just the right size yet could do with better cleaning due to the amount of bugs. The value for money factor could be better.

Booked for an overnight stay @ the YHA for a last minute Easter break and managed to get the last twin room in Airlie! No hassle checking in - just make sure you have $10 spare for the key deposit. There's a small car park (3 spaces!) inside the the hostel which came in very handy as the road outside was undergoing major roadworks and there was pretty much nowhere to park! Staff seemed really friendly and efficient - we didn't have any issues during our stay so didn't have much contact with them really! Lots of information and brochures in the reception with the usual phone cards and underwater camera hire options.

The room was nice and very clean with air con (free) and towels. Even had a small balcony with some chairs which was nice. Only negative point we both had was that the beds were very hard and squeaked every time you moved in the night - not a problem for an overnight but could get pretty annoying if you were staying longer! Other than the beds it was a pretty quiet spot considering our room faced out onto the road. We shared a bathroom with the other twin room in our section but this wasn't a problem for us - for $77 a night (for 2) you can't really complain! The bathroom was massive and spotlessly clean. Had a shower, sink and separate toilet.

As we only stayed 1 night we didn't really use the kitchen but on the brief look that I had, it seemed pretty big with loads of fridge and cooking space. There's also a little TV room and internet area in the communal space - again something we didn't use. Small pool there too but seeing as you're about 5mins walk from the lagoons I'd just go there instead. Plenty of places to eat within 5mins walk of the hostel and loads of backpackers travel agents too.

No issues checking out - you do have to strip your beds and leave sheets etc in a laundry hamper but that's not much of hassle. All in all a good, cheap stay for a last minute trip :)

this is my favourite yha of all the ones i stayed in australia. its small so its a nice little community, i like the lounge and kitchen facilities, the staff were so so helpful and its situated right where everything is and near the lagoon. you have to get on a bus to coles the supermarket if you want to buy groceries but its every 20 mins and costs about 3 dollars for a return ticket. i couldnt get wifi in my room but its nice to sit in the tv room for ages and wifi all i wanted. i recommend the one day ocean raft to the whitsundays. im not a boat person so i dont think i could have done the 3 day long trips and they were really expensive, so the one day did the job. its a nice little yha and the rooms have a big bathroom each which is good

The girl on reception was one of the friendliest, most helpful people we have met in Australia - and that's a high standard. We took a twin room and were very comfortable. There's a good, well appointed kitchen, good fridge space, nice TV room with sofas, and the staff are incredibly helpful. Both our Whitsunday tours were booked in a flash. After our second day on a boat we decided to stay a further night rather than get on the road, and we were put in an empty 6 dorm. Really, really good of them. Would highly recommend if you are looking for comfortable, budget accommodation in Airlie but don't want the noise etc that comes with the on site bar at Magnum's.

YHA is away from all the other hostels attached to pubs and clubs and features a nice pool, serviceable kitchen and TV room, and the staff there are willing to help pick out tours. Based on the price I felt that sharing a double room was the best idea, as the dorms had limited showers to share and it gets VERY humid at Airlie Beach. There were others that told dreadful stories about roomies that fought over the air conditioning at night, so save the hassle and get a normal two-bed room and share it, that was you get your own cooling and you share a bathroom with one other room.
The bedrooms are typical hostel rooms with plastic coverings, so be prepared for some uncomfortable nights if you've never tried this type of accomodation before.
All that aside, it is good value for money and they give everyone here vouchers to eat at Beaches for lunch and dinner which allow travellers on a budget a good, large meal and drink for $6.50 (normally $13).
Value for money, definately worth staying here.
