We stayed here before and after our sailing holiday. The location was perfect as it was close to Abel Point Marina where we sailed from. It was a short walk to Airlie Beach which appeared more suitable to back packers and a younger crowd.
Our rooms were spotless and the views magnificent. The restaurant, bar and pool area divine. Dinner was fantastic - make sure you leave room for dessert!

My husband and I and our 2 children, ages 12 and 9, recently spent 5 nights at the Coral Sea. We were there with a group of about 30, all there to celebrate a birthday. Our room had an amazing view over the pool and the ocean. We did not have any problems with noise from the restaurant and pool, both directly below our balcony. The room was spacious and clean and we did not see any ants. The pool area is incredible, with the ocean on 2 sides, swaying palm trees and manicured lawns. The restaurant/bar area is right next to the pool so it was easy to get a drink or a bite to eat without even leaving the pool area. The resort was only about a 5 minute walk to the shops, restaurants and night life of the main street. Sometimes it seemed like they were a bit short staffed at the front desk, but staff were always pleasant and helpful.

We really like Airlie Beach itself. Restaurants we especially enjoyed were Cactus Jack's (or was it Joe's) for Mexican food and Mangrove Jack's for wood-fired pizza. The free swimming lagoon is beautifully landscaped, huge and patrolled by lifeguards. Airlie Beach had a lot of young backpackers (as well as families and older people).

Tours we did included the Crocodile Safari (the kids really enjoyed this) and the ocean rafting trip to Whitehaven Beach. We booked a stretch limo to get us from Proserpine Airport to the Coral Sea because it was about the same price to do this as it would have been to pay for 7 bus transfers (we were travelling with another family) - and the looks on the kids' faces when they realized they got to ride in the limo were priceless!

We will return to Airlie Beach and to the Coral Sea Resort.

Fantastic view from our room. We enjoyed our stay here but it was the least favorite of the Aussie hotels we stayed in. It was comfortable and the front desk staff was really lovely. Pool was great and the hotel wasn't crowded at all. The only problem we had were the tiny ants that seemed to be everywhere, but it is Australia, and Australia has lots of ants. Just one of those travel hazards. Other than the ants, I would definitely recommend this hotel!

I stayed here three nights with my 13 year old nephew in an ocean view twin room. On arrival we weren't offered any tips or told anything about the hotel. When we arrived at our room we walked in to find a really outdated decor. The view was nice but we were right above the pool which turned out to be really bad at night.

The door to the bathroom didn't close at all, the lock on the door to outside took 5 minutes to adjust to lock it and didn't seem secure. There were ants on the floor. My nephew didn't care cause there were movies on the TV.

At night we were kept up till all hours by people drinking and carrying on near the pool. I had to buy ear plugs on our second night so we could get some sleep. We payed almost $600 for this room and I would never stay there again.

During the day the place is overrun by people with the Watersports that are available and they all hang out around the pool drinking.

We had day trips every day we were there so thank good ness we didn't have to spend all day here. On the plus side the bed was comfy and like I said, the view was nice.

We spent 6 relaxing nights at the Coral Sea Resort in beautiful Airlie Beach. The one bedroom apartment we stayed in had absolute ocean front views. The positioning of the room is significant. Whereas we had peace & quiet, only hearing the lapping of the waves nearby, others would be woken early if they overlooked the pool & breakfast areas.

The apartment had a full kitchen with stove, oven, microwave, large fridge & dishwasher. Our son slept on a roll away bed in the lounge area. Our balcony got the morning sun and we enjoyed sitting at the outdoor suite eating breakfast in the warmth. There was only one flat screen TV - in the lounge, a second TV in the bedroom would have been better. The bedroom had a queen size bed, a bit small for our liking. The bathroom was fully tiled and very clean with a large shower (no bath). The unit was serviced daily - it was great returning to a clean kitchen with dishes done. Toiletries were replenished daily.

We booked our day trip to Hamilton Island through the lady at the Resort who was very helpful. Blessed with 6 warm sunny days, our time at the Coral sea Resort was perfect. Personally I would recommend staying at Airlie Beach and visiting the Whitsundays from that base. Airlie Beach offers much more in the way of dining and shopping than the limited options on the islands.

All in all the Coral Sea Resort was great. Its postion right on the water, whilst being a 5 minute walk into town along the boardwalk, made it ideal. Unlike many other places, there was no steep hill to negotiate. I will give the Resort full marks when it refurbishes the rooms - which are a bit dated as other reviewers have noted. However don't let that fact stop you staying here. It really is a relaxing place with the most beautiful views - highly recommended.

The hotel was set in a nice location, overlooking the sea. It far enough away from the hustle of Airlie town but only a 5 minute walk away (although not advisable for women alone as its a bit dark).

The rooms were spacious and surprisly clean (after the many bad reviews I had read!) Although the decor was a nautical theme, which was a bit dated. The bathroom appeared new and had a lovely shower cubicle. The only downside of the room was the bed was very uncomfortable and our room was just above the breakfast room which meant being woken up at 6am every morning, as the staff prepared for breakfast.

The lady who runs the shop and books tours out to the reef etc, was extremely knowledge and helpful. After having 2 tours cancelled out to the reef, she managed to book a last minute helicoptor trip for the morning we left. So all our travelling wasn't in vain!

We enjoyed our stay at the Coral Sea. It definitely needs a facelift but it was a good value and we wanted to be close enough to walk to the main street but far enough away to avoid the noise. This hotel fits that description perfectly. We felt the ocean-view room was a good value but you have to upgrade to a suite to get a king-size bed and I wish we would have because the beds were small. The view was wonderful but being close to the dock meant that the sports staff woke us up in the mornings playing music and getting the jet ski's ready for the day. Rather small hotel so there was only one person working the desk but they were all very knowledgeable about the tours and were very good at setting these up for us even as late as 7 PM the night before. Only other gripe is internet access is $20/day.
